In this daily feature, we will bring you the key highlights of the 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to keep you abreast with the ongoings at the ‘World’s Biggest Poker Festival.’
Late registrations for the most-awaited poker tournament of the year, the $10K Main Event, closed just before the start of Day 2C, resulting in a final tally of 8,569 entries making this the second-largest Main Event field in the history of the WSOP. The 50th-anniversary special Main Event fell short by only 204 entries from surpassing the record of 8,773 entries set in 2006.
With a top prize of $10 Million (₹68.68 Crores) and the title of ‘World Champion’ still up for grabs, the coming days are going to be full to the brim with electrifying poker action. In fact, only twice in WSOP history have players won a top prize of $10 Million and above in the Main Event. Jamie Gold had won a record $12 Million for taking down the 2006 Main Event while Martin Jacobson had walked away $10 Million richer after winning the 2014 Main Event.
Day 2C saw 4,008 runners in action and following five levels of intense play, the field whittled down to 1,793 runners. 25 Indians were seen in action on Day 2C, but only 11 made it through to Day 3, led by Hyderbad’s Ashish Kasaraneni who bagged the biggest stack of 347,900 (144 big blinds). These 11 Indians will join their four fellow countrymen from Day 2AB.
