In this daily feature, we will bring you the key highlights of the 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP) to keep you abreast with the ongoings at the ‘World’s Biggest Poker Festival.’

Late registrations for the most-awaited poker tournament of the year, the $10K Main Event, closed just before the start of Day 2C, resulting in a final tally of 8,569 entries making this the second-largest Main Event field in the history of the WSOP. The 50th-anniversary special Main Event fell short by only 204 entries from surpassing the record of 8,773 entries set in 2006.

With a top prize of $10 Million (₹68.68 Crores) and the title of ‘World Champion’ still up for grabs, the coming days are going to be full to the brim with electrifying poker action. In fact, only twice in WSOP history have players won a top prize of $10 Million and above in the Main Event. Jamie Gold had won a record $12 Million for taking down the 2006 Main Event while Martin Jacobson had walked away $10 Million richer after winning the 2014 Main Event.

Day 2C saw 4,008 runners in action and following five levels of intense play, the field whittled down to 1,793 runners. 25 Indians were seen in action on Day 2C, but only 11 made it through to Day 3, led by Hyderbad’s Ashish Kasaraneni who bagged the biggest stack of 347,900 (144 big blinds). These 11 Indians will join their four fellow countrymen from Day 2AB.

Similar to last year, the Little One for One Drop kicked off along the sidelines of the Main Event. While Day 1A commenced on July 6, Day 1B played out on July 7 offering action to players that were busting the Main Event. Out of the 1,537 entries that were logged in for the day, only 590 advanced to Day 2. Among this group of advancing players were eight Indian qualifiers. High-stake cash game Rahul Byrraju secured the 35th largest stack of 248,500 (155 big blinds) of Day 1B and leads this group of eight Indians who progressed to Day 2. Taking the three Indians who had made it through Day 1A into account makes for a total of 11 Indians who have already booked a berth for Day 2 with the last starting flight slated to start at 11 AM on July 8.
