WSOP 2019: Abhinav Iyer Among the Top Stacks After Day 1B of the Millionaire Maker

The second and final starting flight of Event #19: Millionaire Maker – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 4,887 entries, creating a total player pool of 8,817 entries for the tournament. Team India, perhaps embodying its cricket team’s phenomenal performance at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, trailblazed through Day 1B with nine of our challengers progressing to Day 2. In fact, there were so many Indian qualifiers on Day 1B that we couldn’t even fit them all in our cover image!

Leading the brigade was Young Gun Abhinav Iyer who not only bagged the biggest stack among the Indian contingent but is also among the top 15 stacks of Day 1B with a count of 299,900. He will now lead a group of 14 Indians to Day 2.

Noah Schwartz (1,100,300) emerged as the end-of-day chip leader on Day 1B and will also lead the 2,286 survivors from both the starting flights as the overall Day 2 chip leader.

 

Event #19: Millionaire Maker – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em – Day 1B

A total of 4,887 entries were registered in the first ten levels of play on Day 1B taking the total number of entries in the event to 8,817 entries, which is the highest turnout the Millionaire Maker has recorded in the last six years. After 11 levels of play, only 1,300 runners remain in the fray. Among the survivors is a group of nine Indians.

2019 APT Vietnam Main Event champion Abhinav Iyer has had a great start to the year. Iyer was one of the early arrivals in Las Vegas, and he has already collected his first score at the 2019 WSOP with a 1,982nd place finish in the record-breaking BIG 50 for $1,258 (~₹87,531). Iyer enjoyed an exceptional run on the felts on Day 1B bagging a stack of 299,900 – the most among all nine Indian survivors. He finished among the top 15 stacks of Day 1B and is currently among the top 30 stacks for Day 2.

WSOP debutant Deepak Bothra is another Indian campaigner off to a blistering start. He finished 1,090th for $1,953 (~₹1.35 Lakhs) in the BIG 50 and has followed it up by making the cut for Day 2 in the Millionaire Maker. He will be entering Day 2 with a stack of 233,800.

Well-known reg Sriharsha Doddapaneni has kept himself busy having already scored twice in the series – finishing 239th for $2,265 (~₹1.57 Lakhs) in Event #16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed and 2,211th for $1,130 (~₹78,624) in the BIG 50. He had an unbeaten run in this event and amassed 211,500 in chips by the time the bags were brought out on Day 1B.

Last year, Raghav Bansal was the last man standing from Team India in the event and had eventually finished 21st for $40,898 (~₹27.64 Lakhs). He looks determined to make another deep run this time and carries with him a stack of 117,800 to Day 2.

WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant is another seasoned pro in the hunt for India’s first solo bracelet. After scoring in Event #9: $600 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack where he finished 229th for $1,973 (~₹1.36 Lakhs), he jumped into the Millionnaire Maker where he has made it to Day 2 with 116,700 in chips.

Vinod Megalmani (110,000) and WSOP first-timer Prashray Rai (97,000), both made it to Day 2 in the event.

After the table collapsing incident on Day 1A which was followed by his exit from the event, Nipun Java, was yet again seen hard at work on Day 1B that was playing out at the Amazon Room. This time around, the former WSOP bracelet winner was able to book a seat on Day 2 with a stack of 96,700.

‘First Ladies’ President’s award winner and PokerStars India Team pro Muskan Sethi in her first good run at this year’s series made the cut for Day 2 with 78,500 in chips. As always, she kept tweeting her progress.

Sethi’s fellow PokerStars India Team pro Aditya Agarwal returned for Day 1B, after busting Day 1A the day prior, however, he did not fare any better this time as well. He fired his first bullet at the start of the day and shared his progress on Twitter.

After busting his first bullet, he bought in again post the dinner break.

He lost a crucial three-way pot to exit and announced that he will be returning for Event #22: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em later tonight.

Paawan Bansal and Dhaval Mudgal had also fired bullets on Day 1B but were sent to the rail before the day’s proceedings culminated.

Noah Schwartz skyrocketed to the top of the leaderboard with a massive stack of 1,100,300 at the end of Day 1B. He is the only player above the 1 Million-mark in chips across both the starting flights.
