DPT Xpress 2019: Anant Purohit Clinches First-Ever Live Title in ₹15K Main Event For ₹7.40 Lakhs

The record-breaking third edition of the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Xpress saw its two-day-long ₹15K Main Event culminate last night. Well known online pro Anant Purohit (cover image) outlasted the largest-ever Main Event field registered at this series, 205 entries, to win his career`s first live title, along with a personal best ₹7.40 Lakhs in prize money.

Purohit, who is better known for his online exploits, has since last year become quite a regular at Goa, winning several scores from his numerous trips. He cashed in the ₹15K NLHE Deep Dive 9-Max at the 2018 DPT July Edition where he finished 35th for ₹30,000. His best live score before this was at last year’s World Poker Tour (WPT) India series where finished runner-up in the ₹20K Megastack Turbo for ₹3.15 Lakhs.

Purohit eliminated Mitang Soni, Prashob PJ, Amit Tejura, Siddharth Karia and eventual runner-up Kshitij Jain on the final table, en route to claiming his career-first live title.

Day 1 of the Main Event had attracted a field of 205 entries, and there were only 26 among them left standing after the days play. Kshitij Jain (569,000), Anish Juwarkar (364,000) and Masood Shaikh (300,000), were the top three stacks at the start of the final day.

Following the elimination of Pratik Kaduskar at 27th place on Day 1, all the survivors returning for Day 2 were assured of taking home a share of the prize money,

Matthew George (26th for ₹24,000) was the first player to finish in the money with the likes of Kali Zhou (13th for ₹55,000), Uttara Mehta (14th for ₹55,000), Raj Juneja (17th for ₹45,000), Radhika Shankar (19th for ₹37,000), Priyank Mehta (20th for ₹37,000) and Masood Shaikh (21st for ₹37,000), all following him out to the rail.

Varun Singh bubbled the final table, finishing 10th for ₹65,000.

Mitang Soni was the first player to be eliminated on the final table when his ran into Anant Purohit’s . The board ran , and Purohit flopped a flush to win the pot, dismissing Soni in ninth place.

Joining Soni at the rail was Ashit Sharma when he pitted his against Kshitij Jain’s . The board brought , and yet another flopped flush saw Sharma’s run come to an end in eighth place.

Finishing in seventh place was Prashob PJ when his were cracked by Purohit’s , with the runout missing both players.

Soon after that, Venkata Phani Anne locked horns with Anish Juwarkar. But Anne’s were no match for Juwarkar’s which bettered to a pair of sevens on the board , leading to Anne’s sixth-place exit.

However, Anish Juwarkar, who had entered the final day as one of the top stacks, was unable to extend his stay at the final table for much longer, and he fell at the hands of Siddarth Karia. The latter jammed from the small blind with , and Juwarkar called from the big blind with . The community cards fanned out , and both players flopped the flush, but Karia held the nut flush resulting in Juwarkar’s fifth-place finish.

In the next level, Amit Tejura went head-to-head with Purohit, and the former’s were defeated by Purohit’s which improved to a pair of kings on the flop. Tejura walked out in fourth place.

Down to three-handed play, Siddharth Karia moved all-in from the button with , and Purohit called from the big blind holding . The board came , and Purohit raked in the pot with his flopped pair of queens, as Karia was ousted in third place.

Karia, interestingly, will be making his maiden trip to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) later this month. PokerGuru caught up with the young player, and he spoke to us about his reason for coming to Goa for DPT Xpress and his preparations for the WSOP.

“I came to Goa just to prepare for the World Series. I was playing online a lot but thought of playing live before I travel. I made it to the final table of the Main Event and finished 3rd.”

Star-of-the-day chip leader Kshitij Jain (2.1 Million) and Anant Purohit (2 Million) began the heads-up battle with the former enjoying a slight edge over the latter. Though the chip lead exchanged hands a few times, in the end, Purohit outlasted Jain to finally get his hands on his first-ever poker trophy.

On the final hand, Jain shoved all-in with his remaining 338,000 with , and Purohit called with . The board spread out declaring Purohit the champion!

*An unofficial three-way deal was made between the three finalists. While Siddhartha Karia got 4.20 Lakhs for his finish, we do not know the details of the other two. The top three payouts mentioned here are as per the prizes declared by the organizers.
