Warren Sheaves Wins Maiden WSOP Bracelet in 2018 WSOP Global Casino Championship

The final stateside 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet has been claimed! Warren Sheaves (cover image) may have been the last player to register for the WSOP Global Casino Championship but he certainly stood his ground till the very end. Beating two-time bracelet winner Loni Harwood in the heads-up match, Sheaves won his career-first gold bracelet and a payday of $282,113.

The event featured a $10,000 buy-in and 127 runners entered the field. Sheaves qualified as a top-10 point earner through the WSOP Circuit season, after scoring 16 cashes including six final table finishes.

Sheaves displayed easy confidence throughout and seemed to be having a lot of fun on the tables. He entered the final day as the second shortest stack among the six finalists but played well to chip up and reach the heads-up stage. Winning the tournament has nearly doubled his live earnings to $666,912.

“That was my strategy,” Sheaves said, talking about his jovial approach during the tournament. “People play poker all day and I’m on vacation every single day of my life.My personality is to make people happy and I try to exhibit that in my own life,” added Sheaves, who came into the final day wearing a bright Jamaican jumpsuit and went around cracking jokes.

From a prize pool of $1,050,000, the top 20 places were to be paid and big names including Ari Angel (12th for $19,697), David Pham (14th for $16,668), Joshua Turner (19th for $12,889) and Joseph Cheong (20th for $12,889), all took home a share of the prize money.

Bracelet winner Keven Stammen sent many out to the rail including Engel and entered the official final table as the chip leader.

The first player to leave the eight-handed final table was Kurt Jewell whose king-queen were cracked by Stammen’s flopped pair of aces and with the turn and the river bringing no help, Jewell was eliminated in eighth place.

Blake Whittington was axed next. After losing the majority of his stack to Sheaves, he then faced Arkadiy Tsnis. Though Whittington’s pocket jacks looked good for a probable double up, Tsinis who held ace-jack clipped an ace on the flop, ending Whittington’s tournament run in seventh place.

The play halted here for the day and the final six players bagged up for the next day.

Day 3 Recap

Sheaves found an early double with aces against Tsinis’ jacks as action kicked off on the final day.

Stammen then sent Arkadiy Tsinis out in sixth place after flipping with pocket nines against the latter’s ace-queen. Stammen hit a straight on the turn busting Tsinis who flopped a pair of queens.

2015 event winner Loni Harwood’ hopes for a second win were dashed when her king-ten were defeated by Meachem’s who rivered the nut flush on the rundown . Harwood exited in fifth place.

Armin Stocker had come to the final day as the shortest stack and improved well to keep going till he faced off with Sheaves in a hand where Stocker 4-bet shoved with pocket tens but Sheaves’ jacks were superior.

Three-handed, the chips exchanged hands many times and each player held on to his tournament life for a long time. Finally, Keven Stammen lost a big pot to Meachem and he finally got scalped by Sheaves who held against his . The flop followed by saw both players hit the heart’s flush on the river. However, Sheaves’ held a superior jack-high flush and Stammen had to leave for the payouts desk in third place.

Sheaves and Jeremy Meacham entered the heads-up play nearly even in stacks but Sheaves won a huge pot that changed the course of the game and saw him take a commanding lead. Meacham`s stack started stumbling and the final hand saw Meacham move all in for 550,000 from the button and Sheaves made the call. Both players tabled their hands.

The appeared on the flop and the turn was the followed by the on the river. Sheaves’ flopped pair of aces held and he claimed the title along with his maiden WSOP gold bracelet even as Meacham finished runner-up!
