The clock is ticking as the international poker fraternity awaits what promises to be the biggest poker tournament outside of World Series of Poker (WSOP), the PokerStars Players NLHE Championship (PSPC). Scheduled for January 6-10, 2019, in the Bahamas, a record-breaking field is expected to join the PSPC action, including winners of the 320 free Platinum Passes worth $30,000 each that are to be awarded by PokerStars.

Now looking to add more value and spruce up the event structure, the gaming giant has launched ‘Have Your Say About #PSPC’ feedback survey to collect player inputs and opinions on what they would like to see as far as the structure of the event is concerned. The survey opened on August 16 and will continue till August 31.

“We’re doing our best to make sure anyone who should be aware of the event is aware,” PokerStars Director of Poker Marketing, David Carrion said. Carrion has been instrumental in PokerStars’ strategy to create the biggest $25,000 event in the history of poker.

The survey essentially aims at involving potential event participants in shaping the event itself. With all the inputs collected, PokerStars will craft a schedule and structure for the event, and will announce all the details in October.

“I don’t necessarily expect a massive departure from the more general elements regarding tournament structure, but at least the players will feel they had the best chance to influence the event and feel confident that they are playing in the best possible event for them,” Carrion added.

The PSPC event will be a freezeout event and also rake-free, meaning that the only deduction from the prize pool will be the standard staff deduction of 2%. What’s more, $1,000,000 will be awarded as added value for first place.

The feedback survey gives players a chance to suggest what the length of levels should be, number of levels per day, starting stack, dinner breaks, what kind of ante to use, payout structure, minimum payout etc, and can be accessed via the link on the PokerStars blog as well as through Twitter and Facebook.

PokerStars will also send a survey link via email to all the current Platinum Pass winners and also all those players in the Stars database who have bought into PokerStars live events of buy-in $5,000 or more. Further potential qualifiers, high rollers and anyone who’d be interested in entering the $25,000 buy-in event will also be reached.

Platinum Pass Adventure Programs

Adopting the approach of rewarding 320 PokerStars flagship event winners with free Platinum Passes has evidently been the way for PokerStars to pick the right, skilled candidates for the PSPC.

“We also need to be able to inspire the poker community, and make it possible for people to connect to real poker stories,” Carrion explained.

Many Platinum Passes have been already awarded. With the Chris Moneymaker PSPC Tour that kicked off at Stones Gambling Hall near Sacramento, California on August 4 currently underway, more passes are to be won.

The tour’s first stop was given live streaming coverage by ‘Run It Up’ team including commentary from Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Joe Stapleton and Lon Mceachern. With the next stop due to visit Lucky Chances Casino in Colma, California from August 19-26 and many other $86 tournaments to be hosted as part of the tour across the US, poker regulars will get many opportunities to win tickets to the PSPC.

Another mega poker festival where 10 Platinum Passes will be awarded is the upcoming European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona scheduled from August 21 to September 2.

Clearly, a rare mix of players, including a good number of recreational players, along with top professionals and businessmen are going to be gunning for the top prize in the PSPC. While PokerStars admits it’s hard to predict how many players will buy in directly in the event, according to PokerStars players’ representative Garry Gates, there are good prospects for the event participation touching 800 and even beyond.
