The 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event witnessed intense action over the past five days and topping the field of 1,015 hopefuls, Greek pro Ioannis Angelou-Konstas (cover image) took down the event for a whopping £940,000 (~$1,224,228) payday.
“I am in shock, I literally am in shock I think. I tried to compose myself all day and yesterday night. I slept alright, I slept like six hours. But I tried to keep cool because I knew, even though I was first in the chip counts, that doesn’t mean you’ll win. So, you have to play your best. And I did, and I got lucky,” an elated Angelou-Konstas said, after his win.
A prize pool of £4,922,750 was collected by the 1,105 entries from the three starting flights. Only 224 players remained in the fray as Day 2 concluded and the top 127 places made the money with a minimum payout of £10,300.
partypoker pro Ludovic Geilich was among those who fell empty-handed on Day 3.
Notables who managed to score include, Daniel Myers (14th for £35,000), Dietrich Fast (17th for £30,000), partypoker pro Kristen Bicknell (18th for £30,000), partypoker pro Patrick Leonard (23rd for £25,000), Mohsin Charania (30th for £22,500), Paul Evans (41st for £17,500), defending champion Maria Lampropulos (53rd for £15,000), Manig Loeser (106th for £10,300), partypoker pro Natalia Breviglieri (117th for £10,300) and Niall Farell (121st for £10,300).
After the elimination of James Atkin (10th for £40,000), play was halted and the nine finalists returned to the felts the next day with Konstas in the lead holding a stack of 32,000,000.
2013 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event champion Ryan Riess (9th for £50,000) bubbled the final table, leaving several poker bigwigs including Antoine Labat, Tom Hall, Sam Grafton, Michael Wang, John Haigh, Dara O’Kearney and Ryan Reiss in the fray.

Dara O’Kearney who had entered the final day as the shortest stack was also the first one to depart. In a 3-way pot, he clashed with John Haigh and Sam Grafton when he moved all in holding . Grafton held and Haigh tabled . Haigh scooped the three-way pot with a flopped two pair on the board , forcing O’Kearney to exit in eighth place.
Play then extended over nearly three-and-half hours before John Haigh fell out in seventh place. In a three-way pot where Tom Hall held against Haigh’s and Alex Foxen’s , the flop of saw Haigh get ready to leave. The brought no relief for Haigh and the river confirmed his exit.

Shortly thereafter, Sam Grafton was eliminated in fifth place. Angelou-Konstas moved all in from the small blind, putting big blind Grafton at risk. Grafton looked at his cards and made the call. His were leading the former’s but the flop got Angelou-Konstas two pair that held through the rundown.
Next up, Tom Hall raised from under the gun for 44,000,000 and Angelou-Konstas put Hall all in from the big blind. Hall snap-called and tabled against Angelou-Konstas’s . Though Hall picked up a gutshot straight draw on the flop and hit the straight on the turn , Angelou-Konstas picked up a flush draw on the turn and a higher straight draw. The river got Angelou-Konstas a flush that eliminated Hall in fourth place.
Angelou-Konstas then sent Antoine Labat packing in third place in a hand where he held against Labat’s . The flop saw Labat looking for an eight or king to stay in the tournament but the turn brought Angelou-Konstas a flush and the brought no relief for Labat.
Shortly into the heads-up play, Alex Foxen and Angelou-Konstas entered a deal with Foxen locking in £720,000 and Angelou-Konstas taking £840,000, with £100,000 left in play for the eventual champion. The final hand saw Foxen raising to 22 Million from the button with and Angelou-Konstas made the call with . The flop fell bringing Angelou-Konstas a straight draw but Foxen was still ahead with his pocket eights. While nothing changed on the turn , the river brought Angelou-Konstas the nut-straight and he scooped the pot along with the Main Event title, sending Foxen to the rail in second place.
