The third edition of Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT3) series opened with the ₹15K Bounty event, and the thrilling action spilled onto the follow-up event, the biggest buy-in event of the series i.e. ₹75K High Roller 6-Max.

A total of 25 entries were registered in the event and outlasting them all was Kolkata-based Jayjit Ray (cover image) who took home his maiden live title along with a bankroll boosting ₹9 Lakhs top prize. Mostly an online player and a rising talent of poker-staking stable AceJack, Ray had posted his first live score in the ₱27,500 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event at the APL Road Series, Angeles City, where he placed 27th for ₱52,200 (₹71,375). Ray is also the protégé of Indian poker icon Aditya Agarwal and is his second mentee to win a title at this series, after ₹15K Bounty winner Ashish Munot.

However, Ray and Munot are not the only talents mentored by Agarwal who have been in the spotlight at the series. The First Lady of Indian poker and Agarwal’s better half Shuchi Chamaria was also seen in action in the opening event and will be in attendance at Day 2 of the ₹35K Main Event. Both Munot and Chamaria bagged the two top stacks amongst the seven survivors of Day 1A which was conducted online on September 23.

Day 1B of the Main Event also played out alongside the ₹75K High Roller 6-Max and attracted 24 participants. Young Gun Devesh Thapar (248,400) topped the five runners who made the cut for Day 2.

₹75K High Roller 6-Max

A star-studded event, ₹75K High Roller saw many poker heavyweights in action including Bibek Karki, Baadshah Gaming co-founder Madhav ‘Maddy’ Gupta, Rajeev Raut, Young Gun Arjanveer Chadha, World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Aditya Sushant, ₹15K Bounty winner Ashish Munot, Kartik Ved, Meherzad Munsaf, Vikram Kumar and PokerStars Team Pro Aditya ‘intervention’ Agarwal.

Maddy Gupta got action going in the event by winning consecutives pots against Rajeev Raut and right before the first break of the evening he claimed some chips from Jayjit Ray. Gupta even sent WSOP bracelet winner Sushant to the rail, but narrowly missed the final table exiting in 9th place.

Aditya Agarwal joined the action late in level 8 and started off slowly with many folded hands. By level 12, Agarwal’s stack had dropped to 35,000 and he lost a big pot to Raut. Soon thereafter, Agarwal pitted his pocket kings against Chadha’s tens. The board ran card 3card 3card 1card 1card 2 and Chadha clipped a set of tens on the flop to eliminate Agarwal. However, Agarwal re-entered the tournament in the final level of registration. Unfortunately, Agarwal’s second bullet didn’t take him much further and he was eliminated in eithth place, on the final table bubble.

After Tournament Director Georgie Thomas announced that the top three spots would receive payouts, the competition intensified. The seven-handed final table featured several eminent players.

Consistent crusaders Jaydeep Dawer and Young Gun Ashish Munot both made back-to-back final tables at the series; while Munot had won the ₹15K Bounty, Dawer had finished fourth in the event.

Another mentee of Aditya Agarwal who made it to the final table was Kartik Ved. Ved joined the action during the early levels and even orchestrated the eliminations of Meherzad Munsaf and Vikram Kumar.

The eventual champion Jayjit Ray had an interesting start. He was in fact eliminated very early on in the day by Aditya Sushant during level 5, but re-entered and made it to the final table, starting off with the third biggest stack.

6. Sahil Mahboobani – 89,800

7. Ashish Munot – 53,000

Final Table Recap

Gunning for consecutive title wins, short-stacked Ashish Munot unfortunely was the first elimination on the seven-player final table. On the flop card 1card 1card 1, Munot picked up a flush with his card 1card 1. Jayjit Ray called with card 3card 3 for two pairs. The two remaining streets brought card 3 and card 2, Ray rivered a full house to eliminate Munot in seventh place.

Following Munot to the rail was Sahil Mahboobani, when Rajeev Kanjani raised to 4,500 and received called from Kartik Ved and Mahboobani. The flop fell card 3card 1card 2, Mahboobani raised 10,000, Kanjani called and Ved further raised it to 23,000. Kanjani folded and Mahboobani called to see the turn card 1. Ved moved all-in and Mahboobani called. The card 3 on the river completed the board and Mahboobani tabled card 1card 1 against Ved’s pocket jacks. While Mahboobani had hit two pairs, Ved’s full house eliminated the former in sixth place.

During level 14, Jaydeep Dawer bet 7,000 holding card 3card 1 and was called by Ved who held card 2card 2. The flop came card 3card 2card 3 and Dawer bet another 7,000, which was yet again called by Ved. The card 3 was dealt on the turn and Dawer bet 18,000, as Ved called with his turned two pairs. After the blank river was revealed, Dawer bet 30,000 and Ved shoved all-in, and Dawer called. Ved’s two pairs of kings and jacks overpowered Dawer’s pocket rockets and his deep run ended in fifth place.

Several more hands were played before the former chip leader Arjanveer Singh Chadha’s run came to an end in fourth place on the money bubble. Chadha jammed with king-jack and Kanjani snap-called with pocket tens. Chadha was hoping for a king or jack on the board, instead a ten opened on the flop and another ten on the turn brought quads for Kanjani, and Chadha crashed out as the bubble boy.

Down to three-handed play, Kartik Ved shoved all-in, pre-flop with pocket fives and Ray called with card 3card 3. The flop brought card 3card 1card 3 and Ved was in the lead. The turn card 3 was inconsequential but the card 3 on the river gave Ved a set, but also improved Ray’s hand to the nut flush. Ved bounced off in third place and was the first player to finish in the money.

Ved’s exit, set up the heads-up play between Rajeev Kanjani and Jayjit Ray. On the final hand, the flop opened with an ace and almost immediately, Kanjani moved all-in and Ray snap-called. Kanjani tabled card 1card 3 and Ray held card 3card 2. The turn and river bricked, and Kanjani finished runner-up with Ray`s better kicker winning him the title. Ray claimed his career-first live title, along with the ₹9 Lakhs top prize.

The other players in attendance included Pranav Bhatija, Amit Dev, Anant Purohit and Gaurav Gala. The overall action across the felts was relatively slow and after 14 levels of play, Devesh Thapar emerged as the chip leader with a stack of 248,400, out of the 24 runners who joined the action.
