The action at the Pro Poker Club where the 2018 Asia Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam is currently underway seems to be intensifying. Monday saw bigger numbers at the final flight of the Main Event, even as two side events ran alongside to crown winners.
Vietnam has been a fertile land for Team India and after a trailblazing performance at WPT Vietnam; Indian challengers have scripted a phenomenal story at this series too. Headlining the Day 1C flight of the Main Event was Nishant Sharma (213,200). Sharma kept to his aggressive game and remained one of the front-runners in the flight that saw a total of 236 entries. He concluded the day as the eight-largest stack among the 105 survivors who advanced through to Day 2.
12 other Indians namely, Sajal Gupta (120,100), Sahil Agarwal (110,400), Aman Dhamija (107,600), Zarvan Tumboli (101,500), Rubin Labroo (76,100), Akshay Nasa (67,500), Banman (66,700), Rahul Marwaha (55,400), Sumit Sapra (55,200), Dhaval Mudgal (51,500), Alok Birewar (50,000) and Paawan Bansal (29,200) also found a bag for Day 2.
194 players have survived through the three starting flights and will be seen in action on Day 2 today. Sitting at the top is Day 1B chip leader and World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Nikita Luther (422, 300) who recently captained the Indian team at the first-ever Global Teams event hosted at 2018 World Poker Tour (WPT) Korea.
With seven Indians joining from Day 1A flight and another five from Day 1B flight, a total of 25 Indians will be in the running for the title on Day 2.
In the side events, we saw Tetsuya Enoki taking down the NLH Single Day 2 Event for a payout of VND 149,640,000, while Tang Kok Wei won the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo for VND 71,720,000.
Main Event – Day 1C
It was a busy day at the felts in the 2018 APT Vietnam Main Event on Monday, as a huge crowd gathered to register for the third and last starting flight of the event. In all, a total of 236 entries, including 169 players and 67 re-entries were in the mix, making for the biggest turnout among the event’s three opening flights.
End of day, 105 players bagged chips for Day 2, with Mei San Ang (292,200) in firm control as the day`s chip leader. Indian pro Nishant Sharma (213,200) headlined Team India’s strong presence and he even managed to storm through as one of the top ten stacks from the flight.
However, Sharma was not alone as he had 12 other compatriots who made it through to Day 2 on Day 1C.
Following Ang in chips were Nick Gorman (279,000) and Pham Van Thang (273,600). Among the notables who are still in running include five former APT Main Event champions, Linh Tran (46,500), Sam Razavi (48,000), Feng Zhao (53,500), Iori Yogo (113,200),and defending championDang Xuan Canh (172,000).
Victor Chong (237,700), who won the CoinPoker Super High Roller event and Duong Vi Khoa (183,000), who won the Monster Stack event in the ongoing series, are also in the running.

Overall, a total of 194 runners including 38 survivors from Day 1A, 52 from Day 1B and 105 from Day 1C will be coming back for Day 2 today. Leading the way is India`s Nikita Luther (422,300) with Korea’s Soo Jo Kim (365,700) and Singapore’s Tzai Wei Phua (341,400) close on her heels.
NLH Single Day 2 Event
Another NLH Single Day 2 Event that was part of the 2018 APT Vietnam roster is now in the books, with Tetsuya Enoki winning the event for VND 149,640,000. Enoki fielded through 101 entries, defeating Indian-origin Dhanesh Chainani heads-up to win the title.
A prize pool of VND 6,600,000 was generated in the tournament and the top 17 places made it in the money. The pace of eliminations was quick and in just five hours, the field whittled down to the bubble round where 18 players jostled to cross the money bubble. After four hands, the money was reached when Wanchana Valaikarok knocked out a player with his cracking an opponent’s on a board that ran .
In the heads-up play, Enoki confronted Dhanesh Chainani and the two players exchanged chips for several hands before the final hand was dealt. On the final hand, Enoki held dominating Chainiani’s . The board ran pronouncing Enoki the champion!

Another star attraction of the day was the fast paced Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event that registered 49 entries. The event culminated with Singapore’s Tang Kok Wei taking down the title along with VND 71,720,000 in prize money.
The prize pool of VND 237,650,000 was divided among the nine finalists.
The battle for the title eventually came down between Wei and German pro Steffen Endres. Wei first doubled up with over Endres on a board that ran . Not long thereafter, the final hand was dealt. Wei held against Endres’ and it all came to close as the board brought .

It promises to be another busy day at the series on Tuesday with a full schedule of side events on tap. Scheduled tournaments are the NLH 1 that features a buy-in in VND 7,700,000 and the WeLoveSports.com Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event with a VND 5,500,000 buy-in. Adding to the glamour is the CoinPoker Players Party that will be held later tonight at the Xing Xing night club.
