Vidwath ‘Ph03NiX’ Shetty Emerges Victorious in the Spartan Bankroll Challenge – PLO, Makes Over ₹2 Lakhs in Profits

Another month gone by at Spartan Poker and a new set of winners announced! This time we have Vidwath ‘Ph03NiX’ Shetty who is the champion of the month-long Spartan Bankroll Challenge – Pot Limit Omaha (SBC PLO), the second such contest hosted by Team Spartan Mentor Rohit Bhalla, after the first Spartan Bankroll Challenge (SBC 1) in Sept, where Gaurav ‘mangesh’ Chauhan emerged victorious!

‘Ph03NiX’not only gets to keep 100% of the profits he has accumulated, but also wins a 3-month staking deal on tournaments at Spartan Poker and the Deltin Royale poker room, besides one-on-one mentoring from Team Spartan Mentor Rohit Bhalla himself.

The SBC – PLO challenge was announced by Bhalla on his PokerGuru blog on Sept 25 and ran from Oct 2 to 31, specifically aimed at PLO players.

Keeping in mind the high variance of the PLO format, this time the 24 chosen contestants were given a starting bankroll of ₹50,000, as against the ₹ 25,000 provided in the SBC 1. It was mandatory to complete minimum 7,500 hands during the time frame of 4 weeks and make profits on the bankroll.

Finally ‘Ph03NiX’emerged the winner, after taking the lead early on in a challenge that was a tough one. Umesh ‘Invincibles1’ Ramakrishna finished runner-up and Irshad ‘bluffer’ Chaudhary came in third. Abhineet ‘pokemon13’ Jain and Vinay ‘uncle’ Suchede placed fourth and fifth in the challenge respectively.

Following are the highlights from the Top 3 winners play, their biggest winning sessions and some key hands played…

 

Vidwath ‘Ph03NiX’ Shetty – Winner

‘Ph03NiX’ made the long haul by getting off to a good start. He made the maximum out of his initial ₹50,000 bankroll ending with a balance of ₹2.60 Lakhs. In line with the terms of the challenge ‘Ph03NiX’ put in 7,754 hands over the course of the month.

The most significant and largest pot he won during these four weeks was on Oct 24 at the Omaha (50/100) tables. Here, within 42 hands, he added ₹36,000.69 to his balance.

The most notable hand of the session saw ‘Ph03NiX’ and ‘Playmoney’ go all-in pre-flop. The board gave out . ‘Ph03NiX’ tabled for a full-house and ‘Playmoney’ showed . The net pot won was ₹13,674.14.

 

Umesh ‘Invincibles1’ Ramakrishna – Rank 2

‘Invincibles1’ was another who kicked off to a strong start and assumed the first place after week #1, but he was unable to sustain a steady growth. He lost a bit by the end of the second week, but managed to slowly build up again in the last fortnight.

A look at ‘Invincibles1’ weekly balance reveals his swingy progress.

‘Invincibles1’ put in a lot of volume with 12,910 hands played in the challenge and his largest winning session netted him ₹30,508.88 on Oct 16, across 212 hands. The biggest hand in the challenge for ‘Invincibles1’ saw the flop opening and he was all-in against ‘k9akkin’.

The turn kept ‘k9akkin’ ahead but the river completed a queen-high flush for ‘Invincibles1’ and he raked in the pot worth ₹19,643.84.

 

Irshad ‘bluffer’ Chaudhary – Rank 3

‘bluffer’ is the third place winner and his has been a comparatively slower progress. At the midway mark, he was actually placed fourth, but lost ground in Week #3. However, he regained enough to make it to third place finally and he did this all in a total of 8,357 hands.

His weekly balance chart reveals his slow rate of growth, and the drop in Week #3, but he did hit the 7,500 hands mark.

The biggest win in one session for ‘bluffer’ came on Oct 4, for a sum of ₹16,057.93 across 68 hands. The biggest hand saw the board open . At this point ‘bluffer’ ‘Rahul911’ and ‘dreambig’ went all in.

The river brought forth and ‘bluffer’ won the pot worth ₹12,921 with his set of sevens.

Abhineet ‘pokemon13’ Jain was in fifth place at the end of two weeks, but ultimately ended up in fourth place after playing a total of 7,750 hands and a volatile balance chart.

Vinay ‘uncle’ Suchede was placed lower at seventh place at the midway mark. However, after 9,262 hands, he managed to make it to fifth place in the challenge.

The SBC PLO may have ended, but the action has just begun on Spartan Poker. Besides Team Spartan Mentor Rohit Bhalla, Team Spartan Pro Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan has also joined in accelerating the momentum with more challenges, such as the Spartan Pro Hunt, which ends this week!
