Founded in 2002, World Poker Tour (WPT) is one of the most prestigious and renowned brands in the world of poker. Bringing innovation into the poker fraternity, WPT not only hosts several international tournaments but also broadcasts the playdown and final tables in its year-long WPT television show that is viewed by audiences in over 150 countries.

In May 2017, the poker giant had announced that the brand would be expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, which led to the inaugural WPT India festival. In collaboration with one of India’s biggest poker sites Adda52, the WPT India kicked-off on November 7 and concluded its inaugural edition on November 13.

Adding to the hype, the WPT had also announced the first-ever WPT India Player of the Year (POY) Award. The qualification criteria included all players who had competed in WPT India, along with those who played Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Main Event in July and DPT Main Event in September. To sweeten the deal, WPT announced that the winner of the WPT India Player of the Year title would also receive a $5,000 buy-in credit for Season XVII of WPT and designated Deltin events.

After year-long hiatus, the WPT has returned to India again! Following the success of WPT New Zealand, the global brand had decided to deepen its foray in the Asia-Pacific region. On the heels of the announcement of WPT Japan, WPT Korea, it also made an announcement for WPT Vietnam. While WPT Japan will run from September 15 to 17, WPT Korea will start right after from September 18 till 24 and WPT Vietnam will wrap up the three-nation tour from September 26 to October 4, 2018.

The action will then turn to the home turf where the Deltin Royale Casino in Goa will once again host the WPT India in partnership with Adda52. The festival will be held from November 13 through to November 19 and will include the ₹55,000 buy-in Main Event, along with the WPT India High Roller, Superstack, Bounty and Shootout events. The complete schedule is yet to be announced.

Taking inspiration from the WPT Asia Swing, a package to the WPT India Main Event that includes buy-in and accommodations will be given to the player who has the best performance throughout WPT Japan, WPT Korea and WPT Vietnam. Additionally, players participating in WPT Japan, WPT Korea, WPT Vietnam, and WPT India will all be eligible for the WPT Asia-Pacific Player of the Year award, while WPT India players will be able to qualify for the WPT India Player of the Year leaderboard.

The co-founder and CEO of Adda52.com, Mohit Agarwal expressed his excitement on the WPT’s return to India and stated, “We are excited to host the second season of the WPT at India’s largest casino, Deltin Royale in Goa. With a population of 1.3 billion, India has a booming poker scene and the game is growing in popularity by the day. WPT India is a perfect fit for the Indian poker community and puts India firmly on the global poker tournament map.”

Needless to say, poker lovers across the country will be eagerly waiting for the WPT’s much awaited homecoming in November! We will keep you posted on further developments, so stay tuned!
