Taking down the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event #74: Big Blind Antes $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship, three-time bracelet champion Shaun Deeb (cover image) has not only claimed his career’s fourth bracelet win and his second title at the ongoing series for $814,179, he has now pushed himself to the top of the list in the race for the WSOP Player of The Year award!

It’s been ridiculous to win two of these high-level events. It’s not going to sink in until I’m home. This is exactly the summer that I came out to do,” an elated Deeb said, after his victory.

On the ‘Player of The Year’ race, the American pro commented, “I’ve always focussed on leaderboards. It’s always been a pride of my grinding ability. This was an intense year. I still might have to go to Rozvadov because John Hennigan still has chips in the H.O.R.S.E. tournament. It’s like a boxing match. Every time I throw a jab, he counters back, and now he’s coming for first place in that horse. He’ll always be in striking distance.”

Victory fell into Deeb’s lap after an eventful run through three days of battle and a fiery heads-up with French pro,Paul Volpe that lasted more than three hours. This was not the first heads-up between the two poker majors. Back in 2015, Deeb had defeated Volpe heads-up in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold ‘em Championship.

The two met again in the battleground of the tournament that introduced the big blind ante into the structure for the first time and brought together a field of 355 players to generate a prize pool of $3,337,000. Right from the start Deeb kept up the pressure on Volpe who played with equal fervor to regain his ground. However it was Deeb who finally triumphed, pushing Volpe to a runner-up finish.

And, he’s not done in the ongoing series yet, with plans up his sleeves to enter Day 1C of Event #75: $1,500 The Closer No-Limit Hold’em (30 minute levels) – $1 Million Guarantee.

“I’ll hop in The Closer tomorrow and fire and then join Tony’s (Tony Miles) rail at the Main Event,” Deeb said.

17 players returned onDay 3 with all of them in the money for at least $32,700 and Volpeholding the chip lead with a stack of 2,190,000. He was the only player with a starting stack of over 2 million and was followed by Martin Zamani (1,944,000) and Deeb (1,610,000).

When the action kicked off, Anthony Zinno (17th for $32,700) was the first player to hit the rail and following him out were Michael Addamo (16th for $32,700), Jason Mangold (15th for $32,700), Jan-Eric Schwippert (14th for $32,700), Ankush Mandavia (13th for $32,700) and Mark Telscher (12th for $41,721).

Play then moved to the last two tables of five players each after the elimination of Sam Greenwood (11th for $41,721). Next to go were Matthija Aerts (10th for $54,831) and Mike Watson (9th for $54,831), and the event was just one elimination away from reaching the unofficial final table.

Soon Deeb won a big pot against Scott Margereson where he raked in five Million in chips. In this hand, Margereson was in the cutoff and Deeb in the big blind. On the flop, both players got their chips into the middle and Margereson showed against Deeb’s . Deeb had two pair and Margereson had the nut flush draw. With the pot swelling to 5 Million it was going to be a big sweat and when the turn and the came up, Margereson couldn’t hit the nut flush and chipped down to 1.1 Million while Deeb picked up the monster pot.

Next, Todd Ivens (8th for $74,162) was eliminated in a hand where he held ace-king vs. Bin Duan’s pocket kings and couldn’t improve when the board bricked out. The action then moved to the unofficial final table.
