Tournament Report: MPC Red Dragon Main Event Day 2, Abhishek Goindi 3rd in Chips

The Red Dragon main event began with an Asia-record 635 players and 212 survivors returned for Day 2 in hopes of adding their names to the payout list where 81 players would win a piece of the HKD $6,297,676 prize pool.

After four and a half hours the money bubble broke and the heroes of the green felt turned their sights towards the HKD $1,320,000 first prize. The pumped up the action sent away the likes of former-Red Dragon winners Patrick Lee, Victor Chen, and Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin. Team PokerGuru Pro Sangeeth ‘Samohh’ Mohan was hoping to better his 10th place finish at APPT Macau (November’2011) but made an early exit on day 2. Joining him at the rails were Team India Pro’s – Bobbe Suri and Dhaval Mudgal who too failed to make it in the money. Gaurav Law hot on the heels of his TCOOP win a month ago finished 31st for a payday of HKD $28,500. Bangalore based Poker Pro and a Tournament Regular – Abhishek Goindi continued his impressive run at the MPC Red Dragon amassing a massive 865,000 stack at the end of play on Day 2. He is currently 3rd in chips and having made an impression in his very first international appearance (24th place finish at APT Cebu Main Event) just a couple of weeks back, he is the player to watch out for tomorrow. Joining him in the pursuit of the MPC Red Dragon Title is fellow countryman Sailesh Verma (297,000 chips).

PokerStars player Jennette “Jay” Tan leads the surviving 18-player field heading into the Day 3 Final with 1,487,000 chips. China’s Ke Chen (1,167,000) is the only other player over the 1 million mark and the two big stacks start Sunday’s play at the same table. 2010 Macau Poker Cup Championship winner Julian Hasse (350,000) and former Red Dragon slayer Denny Yu (549,000) are still in contention to become the first player with 2 major poker titles in Asia.
