In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

A week of multiple developments in India and abroad that included announcements of new poker events, legal and business news, as well as tournament reports fills this edition of our weekly report.

With no major live tournament in the country, the focus was mostly online and after a week’s gap, Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria is back as our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”. Chhabria nets the largest cash of $20,504.41 for winning the PokerStars ‘$109 Mini Super Tuesday, $100K GTD’. Several other regulars were busy notching up scores at the virtual felts.

Major domestic news came from Delta Corp, which may not be going ahead with its deal to acquire Ace2three, even as the Indian gaming emphasis has now turned to rummy. For players, a new festival has been announced by PokerBaazi LIVE with the Boom Boom Series scheduled for March 16.

Internationally, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) announced its Global Casino Championship dates, while PokerStars launched the MEGASTACK Tournaments for casual players, along with the largest-ever live festival for Russia with the PokerStars Championship Sochi.

Legal developments had Phil Ivey getting permission to appeal in his case against Crockfords casino by the UK Supreme Court. Also, online gaming was in the limelight with a new bill proposed in Michigan and Australian poker players uniting to fight a ban on online poker.

Tournament reports are in from the WSOP Circuit Main Event, the World Poker Tour (WPT) WPTDeepStacks Big Stax, the WPT L.A. Poker Classic and the WPT National Brussels Main Event, besides the Unibet Open and the Aria High Rollers.

PokerGuru Young Gun Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria claims his second “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title this year, by winning the PokerStars ‘$109 Mini Super Tuesday, $100K GTD’ for $20,504.41.

In the third week of February, Chhabria took the title for making $21,484, when he won the PokerStars ‘$109 Sunday Kickoff, $125K GTD’.

Team PokerStars pro Aditya ‘Adi Agarwal’ Agarwal, who had the title, last week, is close on his heels, once again with multiple scores for more than about $10K. He won the PokerStars ‘Hot $55, $35K GTD’ for $7,810.37, made a third place for $3,546.99 in the PokerStars ‘Hot $162, $25K GTD’ and one more third place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $8K GTD’ for $1,094.58.

Other notable scores include –

Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover won $1,692.86 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$22 NLHE [Progressive KO], $30K GTD’ won $1,575.00 for 3rd place in the BlackChip ‘BIG10 – $15,000 GTD’ and won $1,395.00 for 1st place in the BlackChip ‘$4,000 GTD’

Sriharsha ‘indiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $4,091.13 for 1st place in the BlackChip ‘PHAT BIG10 – $20,000 GTD’ and won $1,344.58 for 1st place in the BlackChip ‘$5,000 GTD’

Abhinav ‘abhinaviy550’ Iyer won $1,974.71 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$109 NLHE’[Turbo], $4K GTD’ and won $965.89 for 9th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $35K GTD’

Armaan ‘armaan007’ Kochhar won $3,422.87 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$109 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $15K GTD’

Piyush ‘piyush16’ Gupta won $1,598.24 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $27, $7.5K GTD’ and won $1,547.21 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $82, $20K GTD’

Siddhanth ‘revaoholic007’ Kapoor won $1,602.56 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $22, $6K GTD’ and won $1,245.78 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ’$22 NLHE [6-Max, Turbo, Progressive KO], $20K GTD

Amit ‘amitshur2984’ Sur won $1,952.22 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $15K GTD’

Delta Corp Rethinks Acquisition Of Ace2three

The country’s largest gaming company, Delta Corp is rethinking its deal to acquire Ace2three. It is speculated that the high cost of the deal, as well as the company already owning Adda52, with rummy products are some of the reasons.

Boom Boom Series to Debut on March 16

A new cash games festival was announced by PokerBaazi Live. To run on March 16 in Bengaluru, the Boom Boom Series will also have a 30K tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of INR 25 lakhs.

WSOP Global Casino Championship

Dates for the WSOP Global Championship were released for this August. The event will have a $1 million minimum prize pool, with a gold bracelet for the winner. Entries are for WSOP Circuit Main Event winners, besides a few exceptions allowed through a $10K buy-in.

PokerStars MEGASTACK Tournaments

A new series was launched by PokerStars, with the MEGASTACK Tournaments slated for April 7 to 9. The live series has been planned for recreational players and are scheduled around weekends with low buy-ins.

PokerStars Championship Sochi

PokerStars also announced its largest-ever live series in Russia with the PokerStars Championship Sochi. To be hosted at the glamorous venue of Sochi, the series will have 10 exciting events, with satellites already on at the site.

Phil Ivey Gets Permission to Appeal in Crockfords Case

The UK Supreme Court has given Phil Ivey permission to appeal against the negative order given by the Court of Appeals late last year. The case in question is Ivey against Crockfords Casino, with the pro trying to get his £7.8 million winnings from baccarat, while the latter is alleging that he cheated.

Michigan Online Gaming Bill

Michigan joined several other states, as a new online gaming bill was introduced by Senator Mike Lowall. The bill has more reasonable terms, as compared to California and New York and has a clause that operators must offer at least one form of poker.

Australian poker supporters came together to fight the government’s latest ban against online poker, which bars all operators, even legit ones. The players formed an organization and have launched a social media campaign, besides talking to the law makers.

Ryan Jones Wins WSOP Circuit Rio Main Event

In two years, Ryan Jones collected his second WSOP Circuit Main Event title. The second was won at the Rio $1,675 Main Event for $269,327 after defeating a field of 945 entries.

Daniel Strelitz however, made his first million-dollar payday at the WPT L.A. Poker Classic for $1,001,110. The event drew 521 entries including top pros, such as Mike Sexton.

The month season of Aria High Rollers is on and Rainer Kempe was the largest grosser with $576,000 at the $50K Super High Roller. Jake Schindler made $364,320 at the High Roller 52, while Daniel Colman made his second title this year with $342,240 at the High Roller 53.
