Winding up its summer action, the WSOP completed its last Event 69 – $1,111 Little One for One Drop and has finally found the November Nine in Main Event, who will now reconvene in late October in a bid to become the next World Champion.
After a hectic time on the western coast of America, the live-action focus now shifts to the Vegas of the east, Macau, with the Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) Platinum Series XIV, which unfolds from July 16 to 24, featuring 10 official ‘Asia Player of the Year; events and the highlight HK $5,500 Main Event (HK $500K GTD). Later this month, players will have the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila, set to run from July 28 to August 8, with the PHP 50,000 Main Event scheduled from August 4-8.
Today also marks the start of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Philippines II, hosted at the plush Resorts World Manila in Pasay City. The series has 19 events, including a $2,200 Main Event. Two lucky players, Akash Shekhar and Vikram Kumar will be attending the series, courtesy the rewarding APT Satellites at Spartan Poker that had both winning an INR 2.2 lakhs package, including hotel stay and return airfare.
The action at the country’s fastest growing site is non-stop and players can now vie for the latest amazing promo, the ‘Windfall Tournaments’ where lakhs can be grabbed in just minutes. The online dairy is choc-a-bloc with the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) starting tomorrow at Spartan Poker, with its largest ever prize pool guarantee of INR 50 lakhs, besides the PokerStars MicroMillions that started on Sunday, July 17.
Several players were busy at the virtual felts and bollywood actor Siddhanth ‘raveoholic007’ Kapoor topped the online charts this week, with cumulative scores of $6K.
Numerous developments occurred in Goa, with the situation worsening, as the govt continued to face allegations and a shifting order for the fifth casino. In a major development, Supreme Court accepted the majority of the suggestions put forward by the Lodha Committee, but deferred on the issue of legalized betting, leaving it to the government or the Law Commission to decide on the matter.
Internationally, PokerStars made headlines for a ban in Russia, a software change to display hole cards at all-in situations and the release of its draft schedule for the 2016 ACOP, as well as MGM Resorts offering wi-fi gaming to its patrons.
In this edition of our weekly report, we also have reports of Delaware banning real money offerings by daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators, the Big One For One Drop moving to Monte Carlo, high roller wiz Fedor Holz announcing his retirement, the release of the World Poker Tour (WPT) 2016 Borgata Poker Open dates and the latest from the Global Poker Index (GPI) and the Global Poker League (GPL).

PokerStars MicroMillions 12
Starting Sunday, July 17, the MicroMillions return and once again feature really low buy-ins, which begin at INR 7.43 and a range of tournaments, besides $1,000 for the ‘Last Man Standing’ and $35,000 in prizes for ‘Puzzles’.
In the past a number of our players have made deep runs at the MicroMillions, including Amit ‘bblacklegend’ Jain who won Event 67 in Nov 2012, making $10,736.48 on a $1 buy in. Young Gun Rahil Bhatia made 4th place finish in the MicroMillions 8 in July 2014 cashing for $7,478.

Spartan Poker – Windfall Tournament
The deluge of delights continues at Spartan Poker, with the latest being the ‘Windfall Tournament’ based on the format of the globally popular PokerStars Spin & Gos.

Event 68 – $10,000 Main Event No-Limit Hold’em Championship
Our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title goes to Aditya Sushant, who made $42,285 at the most prestigious poker tournament on the planet – WSOP Main Event for a 216th place.

Event 69 – $1000 +111 Little One for One Drop No-Limit Hold’em,
Amit Jain had a fantastic run in the Little One Drop, where he narrowly missed the final table ending at 14th place for $27,714.
Vinod Megalmani made a 97th place for $3,976, with Siva Sachidananda finishing at 356th place for $2,105 and Romit Advani making a 435th place finish for $1,906.
Bracelet Win
The final bracelet of WSOP’s summer was won by Michael Tureniec, who defeated the 4,360 entries in Event 69 – $1,111 Little One for One Drop for a sum of $525,520.
November Nine
A final table of nine was found in the Main Event, with several surprises. Most were new entrants, with one player making his first cash and first appearance at a WSOP event. The man leading the nine is feared player Cliff Joesphy, who has a chip stack of 74,600,000. The event will resume on October 30 and will be televised as it seeks an ultimate champion.

Goa Casino Issue Takes Turn For Worse
Though last week, news came out on Chowgule Group`s offer of private property to park the casinos, opposing parties were in no mood to relent over the issue. The BJP Goa Govt first faced an irate Alina Saldanha, Minister for Museums and Cortalim MLA, who outright negated the shifting of the casino into the River Zuari, citing pollution issues. A day later, Rajendra Arlekar, Forest Minister ordered the shifting of the Deltin Caravela away from the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary saying that it was harmful for the environment.
The week ended with another political party, the NCP coming out strongly against the govt’s decisions on the casinos. Joining the objectors was the BJP’s senior member, Wilfred Mesquita, who criticized the party for encouraging casinos and alleged them of money-laundering.
The govt also faced a stay order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on its beautification project at the River Chapora, brought about by local agriculturists. The BJP tried pacifying them by claiming it was to promote tourism.

Announcing its judgment on Monday, the Supreme Court accepted the majority of the suggestions put forward by the Lodha Committee, but has deferred on the issue of legalized betting, leaving it to the government or the Law Commission to decide on the matter.

PokerStars was constantly in the news and in Russia, the site was banned for a couple of days, with players stating connectivity problems. The issue was resolved quickly with the site and local news provider publishing a solution.

MGM Resorts Offers Patrons Wi-Fi Gaming
Guests at MGM properties will now have an extra gaming option with a newly-launched wi-fi based ‘easyPLAY®Mobile Tournaments’. The games will be available on mobiles or designated computers and the hotel has kick-started the offer with a $5 buy-in “All Summer Long Winner Takes All Progression Slot Machine Tournament”, besides other free-entry events.

Delaware Bans DFS Real Money Game
A notice was issued by the Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) to DFS operators, ordering them to stop offering real money games in the state. The issue cropped as the offerings have been considered as ‘games of luck’ as opposed to ‘games of skill’.

Monte-Carlo To Host Big One For One Drop
The Big One for One Drop will now be hosted at the Monte-Carlo One Drop Extravaganza from October 13 to 17 with a number of interesting events, including the €1,000,000 event usually held at the WSOP.
The invitation-only event will see top pros and businesspersons, as well as celebrities in action. The shift is touted to be a part of WSOP’s game-plan to expand into Europe.

Fedor Holz Announces Retirement At Peak Of Career
23-year old wunderkind Fedor Holz won Event 67 – $111,111 One Drop High Roller for $4,981,775 and dropped a bomb at the bracelet awarding ceremony, when he announced his retirement from professional poker. The German player said that he wanted to seek other options in life that might make him more happy.

The WPT 2016 Borgata Poker Open will run from September 6 to 23, 2016, featuring its $3,500 Main Event with $3 MN guaranteed on September 18. The six-day festival will also have a number of side events.

GPI/GPL Update – Fedor Holz Sits Atop GPI Leaderboard
Fedor Holz continues to rule both, the GPI rankings, as well as the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard. However, Jason Mercier has topped the WSOP ‘GPI Player of the Year’ list.
The GPL has completed its phase two – Summer Series and will now run again with its Regular Season from late August. The last Heat VI ended with Scott Ball of the Las Vegas Moneymakers and Antony Wigg of the San Francisco Rush taking top honours for winning all the three matches in their individual sets.
The phase ended with the Montreal Nationals leading with 145 points in the Americas conference. Among the Eurasia teams, it was Moscow Wolverines, who were at the top with 122 points.
