In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories:

It was a week full of action with numerous developments – new launches to live tournaments, announcements from India and around the world; all make for this edition of our weekly round-up. In a highly exciting development for gaming lovers in India, PokerGuru launched a new and improved LeagueGuru.com, an exclusive site bringing to India the thrill of fantasy sports, while being the only one in the world to offer fantasy poker!

Live action reverberated across the globe starting with the PokerStars Championship Bahamas in the west, which concluded after finding new champions in Christian Harder and Luc Greenwood at the Main Event and High Rollers respectively.

In the east, action was centered on the World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia, where three Indians final tabled and the ongoing Asian Poker Tour (APT) Kickoff 2017, which was not so great for Kunal Patni who exited on Day 2 of the Main Event.

Down under, the Aussie Millions are currently underway, with three events having found winners in Robert Raymond, James Chen and Thomas Muhlocker.

Coming up next is the PokerStars Festival London, running from Jan 22 to 29, with nine events at the Hippodrome casino in West End. Team PokerStars Pro Aditya Agarwal and Arsh Grover are confirmed to attend.

Online too, it promises to be a busy time soon, with the TCOOP and the 888poker XL series kicking off tomorrow and day after, respectively. The past week was equally populated at the virtual felts with several cashes and among these, Abhinav Iyer claims this week’s ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week‘ title for multiple cashes that earned him around $22,000!

In other reports we have news from Goa, where the government has four weeks to decide on the sixth casino.

From across the globe we have the World Series of Poker (WSOP) announcing its 2017 Weekend schedule and news from PokerStars about corporate changes, as well as dates for key Asian events.

Then there is also news about a new brand ambassador for Partypoker in Padraig Parkinson and two new launches – the first an online site PPIPOKER by Poker Players International and Tain and the second also a new site, PokerShares by Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald.

Players were busy online and Abhinav ‘abhinaviy550’ Iyer claims our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” for an accumulative score of almost $22,000 from multiple cashes. These include $7,215.80 including bounties for third place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Buider $109, $80K GTD’ and $7,087.60 for another third place in the PokerStars ‘Big $109, $50K GTD’. Abhinav also made a third place in the PokerStars ‘$27 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $4K GTD’ for $683.45 and collected $6827.29 including bounties in for first place in the PokerStars Bounty Builder $44 [Saturday Special], $75K GTD’. Finally, he also made a sixth place for $1,150.53 in the PokerStars ‘Hot $162, $15K GTD’.

Vaibhav ‘kill_619Sharma won $4,895.34 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Big $44, $25K GTD’

poker4rush’ won $3,323.31 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘$27 Saturday Eliminator [Progressive KO], $100K GTD’

Karan ’Karan Radia’ Radia won $2,866.88 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $33, $60K GTD’

Prabhat ‘SuicideSpree’ Mukherjea won $2,567.33 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$11 Mini Sunday Starter, $30K GTD’

omgluckbox’ won $2,405.97 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $10K GTD’

Vikram ‘thedead parrots’ Singh won $2,004 including bounties for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$55 NLHE [6-max, Progressive KO], $15K GTD’

Abhishek ‘abhi147’ Rathod won $1,824.90 for 2nd place in the 888poker ‘The $10,000 Deepstack Swordfish’

Sriharsha ‘indiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $1,371.02 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $33, $6K GTD’

Bahu Bali’ won around $900 for 7th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $22’

TCOOP & 888poker XL Series

Things are expected to get hotter online with the upcoming PokerStars TCOOP and the 888poker XL Series. The TCOOP will have a massive $15,000,000 in guarantees across 65 events, starting tomorrow. The 888poker XL Series starts a day later and has $5 million up for grabs across 63 events.

However, things aren’t as rosy for Australian and Slovenian players, as 888poker withdrew from these two markets due to gaming regulation changes.

WPT National Cambodia

Benjamin Gonzva won the WPT Cambodia $1,485 Main Event for $36,487, after defeating a 100-strong entry field. Amidst the numerous Indians present, Nitin Jain (4th place for $12,170), Manoj Pentakota (6th place for $7,296) and Kalyan Chakravarty (7th place for $6,078) made final table finishes.

APT Kickoff 2017

The APT Kickoff 2017 took off with Byun Choul Seung winning the Ante-Up For Charity Event and John Tech taking down the NLH Welcome event for $4,460.

Lester Edoc claimed the Main Event Warm Up for $7,840, while Kai Paulsen, Hung Sheng Lin and Jan Bolotaolo won the other side events.

The $1,650 Main Event completed its two entry-flight days and is now down to a eight-handed final table. Kunal Patni played on both entry-flight days and made Day 2 with a stack of 87,100, but failed to reach Day 3.

2017 Aussie Millions

The 2017 Aussie Millions took off on January 11 and the first three events found winners in Robert Raymond, James Chen and Thomas Muhlocker.

Event #1 NLH was won by Raymond for AUD$320,830, while Event #2 H.O.R.S.E. was taken down by Chen for AUD$39,700 and Muhlocker topped Event #3 NLH Shot Clock Shootout for AUD$40,125.

Goa Govt Asked To Finalize on Sixth Casino

The Bombay HC took cognizance of a petition filed by the Golden Globe Hotels Private Limited (GGHPL) and directed the Goa government to take a decision regarding the sixth casino license within four weeks.

PokerStars Championship Bahamas

Nassau was brimming with pros, as the PokerStars first stop in 2017 unfolded in the Bahamas and one of the big winners was Bryn Kenney who shipped the $50,000 Single-Day High Roller for $969,075 overcoming a star-studded final table.

The $25,750 High Roller was won by Luc Greenwood for $779,268 after a heads up deal with runner-up Nick Petrangelo.

In a corporate move, Amaya appointed Bo Wänghammar as the latest PokerStars Casino managing director. Wänghammar will handle strategy and operations in his new role.

PokerStars also announced dates for key Asian events of 2017. The new schedule will include enhanced events at the PokerStars LIVE Manila and PokerStars LIVE Macau, besides an inaugural PokerStars Championship Macau.

New Online Sites – PPIPOKER & PokerShares

PPIPOKER.net, a new online real money poker site was launched by Poker Players International (PPI) and Tain. The site promises latest technology and unique features including PokerCraft, straddle, run it three times and more.

Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald expanded his “Bank of Timex” stock-market styled betting system into a full-blown official site PokerShares. The site allows people to buy action from players at competitive rates.
