Online Railbird Report

The dry spell for the Indian community continued this week too and even with big weekend tournament running on PokerStars and FullTilt Poker, the big win eluded the team. Its been a long wait since young gun Aditya ‘donkab0mber’ Sushant chopped the Sunday Million in June’13 and every Sunday brings hope for a new record by an Indian player but alas this Sunday was not one of those days.

One of the most consistent performers, young gun Sahil ‘antilog’ Agarwal is this weeks ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’. Sahil is considered one of the rising stars of Indian poker and his results are testimony to his sincerity and commitment to the game. A former IT professional, Sahil quit his job to turn pro and there has been no looking back for the young gun ever since. The week saw him score a string of three big scores for a total of $15,548 in prize money! He won $4,819.30 for his 9th place finish in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Supersonic, $125K GTD’, $3,769.40 for his 7th place finish in the PokerStars ‘The Hotter $55 [Turbo], $60K GTD’ and $6,960 for winning the 888 Poker ‘$25,000 SUPER XL Saturday Challenge’.

Tokyo’s Masato Yokosawa Wins World Poker Tour Korea Main Event for $100,000

For the first time ever, World Poker Tour explored the city of Korea where Ramada Plaza, Jeju played host to the eleventh stop on the schedule. Another champion etched his name on the shining WPT trophy and this time it was 21-year old Tokyo business manager, Masato Yokosawa who became the winner for the first WPT event held on the Asian continent.

The Japanese topped a field of 137 players in the event that ran over a course of five days to claim the championship title and $100,000 in first-place prize money, including a $15,400 entry to the 2014 WPT World Championship. Yokosawa began the day second in chips behind Chane Kampanatsanyakorn, who held a commanding chip lead. In a surprising turn of events, the chip leader fell in the sixth place shifting the lead towards Yokosawa. The journey from there on wasn’t easy for Yokosawa who faced great competition from the remaining contenders but eventually triumphed to enter the heads-up duel against Chris Park with roughly a 2-1 chip lead. The heads-up match saw 50 more hands before crowning the final champion. On the final hand, Park raised to 120,000 and Yokosawa called. After the flop of , the two continued and Yokosawa check-called 140,000. The turn paired the board and while Yokosawa checked, Park bet another 215,000. Julian Thomas Wins 2013 bwin World Poker Tour Prague

The 2013 World Poker Tour has moved one step forward with the completion of the bwin World Poker Tour Prague. The event marks the mid way stop for the series with ten more events left to go in the season.

The bwin WPT Prague series saw an exciting end on Saturday with the crowning of its main event champion. A field of 306 entrants graced the venue with their presence and in the end Julian Thomas was able to rise above the rest to earn $283,827 in first-place prize money and etched his name in the WPT champions club.

The long schedule of events started on 5th Dec and ended with the €3,300 main event on 21st Dec. The event saw three entry flights and four more days of action before a champion emerged. On the final day of the event, a final table of six played down to one final champion. The exit of four finalists paved way for the heads-up match between Julian Thomas and Vasili Firsau.

At the start of the heads-up, the results looked pretty obvious as Thomas held a huge chip lead with 8.65 million chips to Firsau’s 530,000. It took all but two hands to reach a winner. The first hand got Firsau a double up, but his luck ran out the very next hand. On the final hand of the tournament, Thomas raised to 125,000 and called Firsau’s all-in shove. Firsau held against Thomas’ . The flop of kept Thomas in the lead and the turn and river changed nothing to crown Thomas as the bwin WPT Prague champion.

Firsau, who recently finished runner-up to Mohsin Charania in the WPT Grand Prix de Paris, was forced to settle for another second place and a $185,796 payday.
