In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

It’s been a whirlwind of poker energy the past seven days. On the eastern front we had the commencement of Asian Poker Tour (APT) Manila 2017 at the Winford Hotel & Casino while the western felts were busy with the ongoing WSOP Europe at King’s Casino, Rozvadov.

Most of last week was dominated by the action at the WSOPE with its headline Main Event now down to 31 players from 529 entrants. It has been quite a memorable series for Team India with many of our challengers leaving their mark at the series. Dan Shak, Matous Skorepa, Chris Ferguson, Niall Farrell and Albert Hoekendijk recently claimed the coveted WSOP bracelet at the series.

Things weren’t dull back home either with the commencement of the first-ever World Poker Tour (WPT) India onboard Deltin Royale, Goa with a deluge of players flying in for the series. The country’s biggest pros and enthusiasts alike are all in attendance. The first event of the poker i.e. 20K Kickoff NLH was taken down by Kanishka Samant. A detailed tournament report will be published tomorrow about the same.

Focusing on the online front now, it was again an excellent week for our grinders with many regular names raking in great scores. The one that stood out amongst them all was Young Gun Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani who shipped the $55 Sunday Marathon, $75K GTD event on PokerStars to bank a cool payday of over $18K. With this score, he takes our “PokerGuru star of the Week” title.

India’s biggest poker site Adda52 played host to its second Mega Suits event which was taken down by Sumit ‘Hammer_Head’ Sapra and won the ₹10 lakhs first place purse.

In this issue of our weekly report, we continue to bring you the news from Goa where now, the Candolim Panchayat has opposed a proposed land-based casino.

Meanwhile, PokerNews confirmed rumors of ownership of PokerStars, BetStars entered the regulated Czech Republic market, Catena Media bought online site PokerScout for $350,000 and 888poker joined hands with WPT.

A number of big announcements were also made this week like the return of the historic $1 Million buy-in Big One for One Drop at WSOP 2018 and Philadelphia which is getting a second casino named $600 million Live! Hotel & Casino.

Finally, Chris Ferguson won the 2017 WSOP Player of the Year Race while in tournament reports we have 2017 BPT Macau Final and WSOP Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe Main Event.

In a trailblazing victory, Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani took down the PokerStars ‘$55 Sunday Marathon, $75K GTD’ event banking a cool $18,191.77 for his finish. For this win, Chutani is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

Raghav ‘rossoneri23’ Bansal won $12,711.16 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Daily 500, $40K GTD’ and won $2,500.00 for 7th place in the 888poker ‘The $100,000 Mega Deep’

Sumit ‘hammerhead’ Sapra won ₹10 lakhs for 1st place in the Adda52 ‘Mega Suits’

‘AnthraX786’ won $3,003.34 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $82, $15K GTD’

Armaan ‘armaan007’ Kochhar won $1,981.89 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $82, $8K GTD’

Anmol ‘bemyfriendpls’ A Srivats won $1,362.32 for 33rd place in the Party Poker ‘High Roller: $200K GTD’ and won $1,270.00 for 141st place in the Party Poker ‘Monster-49-Mid-Stakes [Day 2]: $1M GTD MAIN EVENT’

‘irraiserr’ won $1,278.72 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $22, $40K GTD’

Vinay ‘Vinaycdy’ Choudhry won $1,256.23 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$27 NLHE [Progressive KO], $12K GTD’

Mega Suits With 30 Lakhs GTD on Adda52

India’s largest poker site – Adda52.com recently played host to its second edition of Mega Suitstournament on November 5 featuring a massive ₹30 lakhs in guaranteed prizes with ₹10 lakhs reserved for winner. The event attracted 412 entries with an additional 233 re-entries with the top 45 places getting paid. The winner emerged in Sumit ‘Hammer_Head’ Sapra who pocketed ₹10,00,000.

Candolim Village Panchayat Opposes New Casino Plans

Debacles in the coastal state of Goa continued this week too as the Candolim village Panchayat decided not to allow the proposed land-based casino at a five-star hotel at Annavaddo in Candolim. Candolim sarpanch Blaize Fernandes said that the Gram Sabha of the Candolim adopted a resolution three years ago to not permit any casinos and spas in the village stating that casino culture is “not good”.

The Stars Group’s BetStars Enters Czech Republic

Recently, the sports betting site operated by The Stars Group – BetStars became the first sports betting site to legally operate in the regulated Czech Republic market after obtaining a license from the regulator.

PokerNews Confirms Ownership of PokerStars

iBus Media (operator of PokerNews) recently confirmed the rumors of being owned by PokerStars. Since 2010, its founder Tony G (Antanas Guoga) had steadily sold his equity in stages to The Stars Group who now own a large majority of the business. PokerNews however clarified that they owe no special obligation to the Stars Group and that the website will continue to operate independently.

Catena Media Acquires PokerScout for $350,000

European affiliate network Catena Media announced the acquisition of online poker news and traffic comparison site PokerScout.com along with its related assets for $350,000. The acquisition was done following the passage of the gaming legislation (iGaming bill) that was recently passed in Pennsylvania.

In order to make poker more accessible to all, two of the greatest global poker entities – 888poker and the World Poker Tour (WPT) have joined hands to provide players the opportunities to qualify for WPTDeepStacks events across the globe. Players can now qualify for WPTDeepStacks events for as little as one cent at 888poker.

$1M Big One for One Drop Returns in WSOP 2018

The partnership between World Series of Poker (WSOP) and the One Drop foundation was extended this week as WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart announced the return of the mammoth $1 Million Big One for One Dropin WSOP 2018 after a hiatus of four years with the cap of 48 entries. WSOP will waive its $111,111 fee that will go to the One Drop foundation.

Philadelphia to Get Second Casino Named $600 million Live! Hotel & Casino

The Pennsylvania governor recently removed the final hurdles for a long-planned second casino for the city of Philadelphia named $600 million Live! Hotel & Casino in Limbo. According to reports, the construction for the casino is expected to begin next year with its operations planned to start sometime in 2020.

Chris Ferguson Wins 2017 WSOP Player of the Year Race

After John Racener got eliminated from the WSOP Europe Main Event, WSOP announced via a tweet that Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson has won the WSOP POY race. Ferguson now joins the elite club and won an entry into the $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event 2018 and his face will also feature on a banner displayed at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

WSOP Europe

WSOP Europe hosted at the King’s Casino, Rozvadov marched ahead with full vigor this week crowning several new champions through it bracelet-awarding events. The headline Main Event of the series is finally well underway (down to 31 survivors now) while its €25,000 Super High Roller crowned a champion in Dan Shak.

Matous Skorepa became the third Czech player to win the coveted WSOP bracelet after taking down the 4,115-runner field of THE COLOSSUS event pocketing €270,015. Indian challengers were frontrunners in the event with Devesh Thapar making the deepest run finishing 66th to pocket €3,361 (~₹2,53,042). Simon Mint (68th for €3,361), Sacheen Ramchandani (70th for €3,361), Harsh Shori (180th for €1,625) and Rahul Marwaha (204th for €1,625) were others who managed to cash.

Chris Ferguson claimed his sixth bracelet after topping the 92-player field of the €1,650 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better event. India’s Divanshu Khurana finished sixth cashing €6,347 for his efforts.

Meanwhile, Niall Farrell clinched the €25,000 High Roller title for €745,287, Albert Hoekendijk shipped the €1,111 Little One for One Drop. India’s Jayant Yewale Ramkrishna managed to cash in the €1,111 Little One for One Drop finishing 106th for €1,660 (~₹1,25,059).

Lin Hong Chang Wins 2017 BPT Macau Final

The 2017 Boyaa Poker Tour Macau Final attracted a strong field of 745 entrants and after five days of tough battle at the Babylon Casino in Macau, it was Taiwan’s Lin Hong Chang who emerged the champion. Chang banked a cool HK$1,274,900 (~US$163,404) for his finish.

Max Young Wins WSOP Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe Main Event

32-year-old Portland resident Max Young bested the 458 entries of the WSOP Circuit (WSOPC) Harveys Lake Tahoe Main Event to clinch the WSOPC ring along with $147,699 in prize money. Indian-origin player Jasthi Kumar finished third for $66,715.
