In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

It was not just a typical summer week in pokerland, steaming with loads online action with the conclusion of PokerStars SCOOP over this past weekend, which also turned out to be the biggest weekend in the history of online poker. PokerStars broke another record giving away a mammoth $39 million in prizes over the last two days!

888poker too created a new prize pool record for itself with the $1,050 Main Event of XL Inferno Championships creating a massive $1,755,000 prize pool.

Online railbirds had a jam-packed week with several notable cashes this week. Samay Parikh is yet another big SCOOP winner and narrowly missed a title taking seventh place in the PokerStars SCOOP-01-H: $1,050 NLHE event for $119,442.26 claiming our ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title!

In domestic news, the GST council is likely to put skill games under the 18% slab while the council announced casinos and betting under the 28% slab. New online poker website PokerMet is set to launch on June 7 and announced well-known pro Dhaval Mudgal as its first team pro.  

Action now shifts to live poker with the ongoing PokerStars Championship Sochi and PokerStars Festival Chile but starting next week, all the action is going to be centered around the biggest poker spectacle on the planet i.e. World Series of Poker (WSOP) that kicks off on June 1 and once again a large and formidable Indian contingent will be storming the series. PokerStars SCOOP 2017

Online giant PokerStars set an ambitious goal by offering over $29.5 million in guaranteed prize money this past Sunday and with regular events coinciding with SCOOP events, players were able to participate in more than 1,200 online MTTs.

Once the final numbers came in, the amount of money collected had sailed way past the guarantee, in fact a smashing 40% over the guarantees. The series came to a close on Tuesday crowning several champions with all eyes on the $10,300-H Main Event where a talent-heavy final table was playing down to a champion for $1M+ in top prize.

UK’s Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel claimed the title for $1,200,899 defeating Canada’s Harrison "gibler321" Gimbel in heads up battle.

2016 WSOP Main Event runner-up Gordon "[email protected]" Vayo made headlines in SCOOP by shipping SCOOP-01-H: $1,050 NLHE Phased event and took home $692,461* after a rare five-way deal.  

Australian player “ROFLshove” outlasted the 5,033 field at SCOOP $1,050 Main Event for $787,312,19.

SCOOP-54-H ($2,100 NLHE 8-Max) was taken down by Sweden player “compris” for $320,420.

Brian "tsarrast" Rast claimed his first SCOOP title when he took down SCOOP-52-H: $1,050 NL 2-7 Single Draw event for $36,502.50.

Nicolas 'chilenocl' Yunis claimed his second SCOOP title after winning SCOOP Event #47-H $2,100 NL 6-Max for $93,720.

SCOOP-44-H ($2,100 NL Hold'em, Progressive KO, Thursday Thrill Special Edition) attracted 861 runners and Malta based “B1GL1P$$$” emerged victorious collecting $137,092.49 for his fist place finish along with $54,062.47 in bounties.

Ognjen 'psjebemvas' Šekularac was also one of the other big winners at the series and took down SCOOP-40-H ($10,300 PLO [6-Max, High Roller]) for $386,400

 

PokerStars New Rewards Program Launched

This past weekend also saw 888poker creating new prize pool record as the $1,050 Main Event of the XL Inferno Championships with $1.5 Million in guarantee was easily crushed thanks to the field of 1,319 players who additionally ponied up 436 rebuys to create a prize pool of $1,755,000.

Australian player “Alien_Army” emerged as the champion pocketing $291,007.27 after a heads-up deal with “stevachenko7”.

“spud_gun888” from United Kingdom took down the $5,200 XL Inferno Super High Roller Chip In event for $186,300.

$100,000 Quarterback event attracted 587 entries with additional 425 rebuys and outlasting the field was Austria based Thomas "WushuTM" Muhlocker who pocketed $26,190 for his finish.

$40,000 Octopus event saw 289 runners with more than 200 additional rebuys and topping the field was “SoulRead88uk” from UK who collected $19,227 for his efforts.

Another big winner was crowned on the last day of the series in the $150,000 Mega Deep event that attracted 913 entries. “cuttyshark89” from Moldavia took down the event for $32,868.

The $250,000 Mini Main Event saw 1,665 runners and outlasting them all was UK’s “spyver” who won $61,234 for his first-place finish.

WSOP Circuit Releases Schedule For 2017-18

The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) recently released the schedule for its 14th season with a record 26 tour stops in 2017-18. The tour starts on August 2, 2017 and concludes with the season-ending stop at Harrah’s New Orleans that begins on May 10, 2018.
