In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

The temperatures are soaring in Vegas and it’s not the summer that`s turning up the heat. Yes, we are referring to WSOP 2017 that has been the cynosure of the poker world for the past two weeks.

The 48th edition of the WSOP has seen a record number of Indian`s joining the mega poker spectacle and many among them have kept the railbirds back home entertained as Aditya Sushant – Nipun Java finally ended our hunt for the elusive bracelet after winning the Tag Teams event.

Aditya Agarwal made his first WSOP final table in Event 12 eventually settling for a ninth place finish and also made a deep run in Event 20: $1,500 Millionaire Maker finishing 653rd for $3,105.

Agarwal’s partner in life, the first lady of Indian poker and PokerMet pro Shuchi Chamaria made her first WSOP cash in the Millionaire Maker along with Raghav Bansal and Sumit Sapra. The latter was the sole Indian to survive through till Day 3 and finished 118th banking $8,054.

The Indian contingent at the series will be adding many more challengers in the next few days in Arsh Grover, Jasven Saigal and Sharad Rao.

With the big pros busy bracelet hunting at WSOP, many familiar names have been firing away online with big scores. One such player was Sharad ‘Keenyle’ Rao who made a splendid runner-up finish in the PokerStars ‘$215 SUNDAY MILLION, $1,000,000 GTD & $150K+ to first! - Barcelona Ticket Giveaway event and takes our ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title!

Brand alliances continue to pour in with Maria Kirloskar and Abhishek Rathod joining PokerBaazi as team pros. The major highlight this week was the signing of Bollywood star and ace model Arjun Rampal by Poker High.

World’s largest poker website PokerStars too added a popular name to its pro rooster by signing the fastest man on the planet Usain Bolt as a brand ambassador. 

Action is also set to kick off in the eastern hemisphere as Asian Poker Tour (APT) announced the schedule of its Macau stop which is slated to run between June 14 – 22 and a number of Indian players will be seen in attendance at the series. Nishant Sharma, Jaydeep Dawer and Alok Birewar are among those confirmed for the series.

Online Railbird Report

It was another spectacular week for online grinders with several known names cashing in numerous events and online railbirds were hooked as another Indian narrowly missed shipping the Sunday Million. Prabhat ‘SuicideSpree’ Mukherjee won $17,996.81 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Monday 6-Max, $60K GTD’

Anil ‘BigBlufferAY’ Yadav won $5,197.82 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $50K GTD’ and won $1,148.55 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $82, $8K GTD’

Sriharsha ‘indiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $6,458.81 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Big $55, $40K GTD’ and won $1,464.54 for 3rd place in the BlackChip ‘BIG10 - $12,500 GTD’

Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani won $4,420.38 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $109, $40K GTD’

Vinay ‘vinstill’ BK won $3,169.45 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $215, $60K GTD’

Vineet ‘vineetpoker’ Kumar won $2,124.74 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $82, $18K GTD’

Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria won $1,678.19 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$27 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $10K GTD’ and won $1,643.16 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$27 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $20K GTD’

Karan ‘Karan Radia’ Radia won $1,513.27 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$55 NLHE [6-Max, Progressive KO], $12K GTD’

 

Sharad ‘Keenyle’ Rao Finishes Runner-Up in the PokerStars Sunday Million

This week`s Sunday Million, online poker’s biggest and most popular tournament will definitely be a memorable one for Sharad ‘Keenyle’ Rao who now joins an increasing list of Indians to have almost won the milly. 

Young Gun Sharad ‘Keenyle’ Rao managed to finish just one short of the pole position in this week’s PokerStars Sunday Million. Notably “kingplayer19” and Aditya Sushant are two other Indians who have finished second in this very event in the past.

WSOP 2017 Recap

Another week of pulsating action was registered at WSOP, with 19 proud champions taking home the esteemed piece of gold, the WSOP bracelet till now.

This past week was by far the most exciting for the Indian rail as we were served several exhilarating sweats by the Indian champs.  Names that stand the most were undoubtedly Aditya Sushant and Nipun Java who won the first WSOP bracelet for Team India after taking down the Tag Teams Event for $150,637.

Another notable name to keep the railbirds hooked was none other than Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal. Agarwal came in striking distance of the bracelet with an exceptional performance in Event #12 and made his career’s first WSOP final table but couldn’t go all the way, eventually settling at ninth place for $30,774.

Doug Polk won his third WSOP bracelet after taking down the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop for $3,686,865.

Other big winners include Thomas Pomponio who took down the Colossus III event for $1 Million. Abe Mosseri & David Bach also won their second bracelets.

The Mecca of poker also saw a few first-time bracelet winners emerging including Tyler Smith and Ron Ware who took down Events 18 and 21 respectively.

WSOP 2017 winners till date -

A number of Indian players have notched up scores at the World Series of Poker including Samay Parikh, Raghav Bansal, Sumit Sapra and Vikram Kumar, the latter making his first cash of the summer in a Golden Nugget side event.

Sumit Sapra ran deep in the $1,500 Millionaire Maker event but ended his run in 118th place for $8,054. Sapra jammed his 14 big blind stack from early position holding card 1card 1 and got the call from a player with Ace-King. Sapra failed to improve on the board and busted.

The adrenaline-charged tournament action is set to hit the eastern hemisphere too with the Asian Poker Tour that is slated to run from June 14 – 22. For the first time ever the series will be hosted at the Macau Billionaire Poker Room inside the Babylon Casino.

Michal Mrakeš Wins partypoker LIVE MILLION Main Event For; Rishabh Chawla Finishes 22nd

The €1,100 partypoker LIVE Million Main Event attracted a strong field of 820 runners and outlasting them all was Czech Republic based Michal Mrakeš who pocketed €200,000 for his finish.Indian player Rishabh Chawla made a deep run in the event and finished 22nd for €5,750.

Andrew Mackenzie Wins Unibet UK Poker Tour Glasgow Main Event

Unibet UK Poker Tour’s Main Event attracted a total of 205 hopefuls and besting them all was Andrew Mackenzie who took down the title and walked away with his second-largest live cash of £11,500.
