In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

Busy in Las Vegas, the week wrapped up on a great note for Team India at the 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP), where their run continuing with some of the best finishes from a number our heroes, including Aditya Agarwal, Amit Jain, Muskan Sethi, Nikita Luther, Kunal Patni, Jaskirat Bindra, Sumit Sapra, Sumit Asrani, Arsh Grover and Dhaval Mudgal.

Agarwal made two WSOP cashes this week worth $16,600 and climbed to the eighth spot on the WSOP POY leaderboard with 544.99 points.

Another exciting event unwrapping is the WPT500 Aria Las Vegas event that attracted a massive field of 3,541 entries and is currently down to the final 17 players. India’s first bracelet winner Nipun Java, Nikita Luther and Kunal Patni are all going strong in the event. Sumit Sapra was eliminated at 30th place and collected $7,000.

Despite the hectic live schedule, there were some dedicated players busy online last week and among these was Shravan Chhabria who seems to be on a heater of a lifetime scoring notable cashes both online and offline. This week Chhabria banked $8,810.24 after shipping the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $109, $80K GTD’ and takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week Title”.

Flying east, the action was stoked by the ACOP which concluded this week crowning the last of its champions. China’s Jie Su took down the Main Event while side event winners included Sam Cheong, Hulie Meng, Yingpeng Jiang and current APT POY leader Alan King Lun Lau. Action immediately shifted to the ongoing APT Southeast Asia 2017 which is slated to conclude on June 7.

Action aside, another major development in Goa filled the week where the sixth casino was given permission to enter River Mandovi. In other news, Casino Pride bought a 30% stake in the online gaming venture Baadshah Gaming for an undisclosed amount.

Internationally, PokerStars grabbed headlines as two of its most popular brand ambassadors Usain Bolt and Kevin Hart are set to battle on social media under the #GameOn campaign.

Rounding up our recap are reports of Connecticut governor approving a legislature which allows the operation of the third casino and Playtech’s founder Teddy Sagi selling 10.1% of his stake for £316 million.

Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria is fresh off from a deep run in the APT Macau 2017 Main Event where he finished third banking ₹17.45 Lakhs and the pro wasted no time in topping the online charts as well. Chhabria shipped the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $109, $80K GTD’ for a cool $8,810.24 and is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title!

‘xmmukesh’ won $1,556.48 for 12th place in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: The Title Fight Warm Up – $100K GTD’

Prabhat ‘SuicideSpree’ Mukherjea won $1,377.09 for 6th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $162, $20K GTD’

‘aashvin’ won $1,220.72 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$33 NLHE [Turbo], $5K GTD’ and made $1,058.59 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$16.50 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $6K GTD’

 

PokerStars Ambassadors Usain Bolt & Kevin Hart to Feature in #GameOn Campaign

PokerStars and London-based creative agency Gravity Road are bringing ace comedian Kevin Hart against 8-time Olympic gold medal winner and the fastest man on the planet Usain Bolt in a social media battle under the #GameOn hashtag.

Sixth Casino Vessel M V Lucky Seven to Be Allowed to Moor in River Mandovi After Third Tug Gets Approved

The High Court of Bombay at Goa recently allowed the sixth casino vessel – M V Lucky Seven to enter River Mandovi for mooring at the owner’s risk. The Captain of Ports (CoP) will grant permission for the same if the vessel’s management provides the third tug as per specifications.

Casino Pride Acquires 30% Stake in Baadshah Gaming

Goa-based Casino Pride Group recently bought a 30% stake in the Mumbai-based online gaming start-up Baadshah Gaming for an undisclosed amount. Under the deal, the online platform will also launch its ‘Baadshah Gaming Live’ arena inside Casino Pride, Goa.

WSOP 2017

It was an exhilarating week for Indian players at WSOP, with all giving it their best shot.Team India dived right into the fray and this week saw them make deeper runs both in WSOP and the exciting side events that are hosted along with the extravaganza.

There were more cashes, with Amit ‘bblacklegend’ Jain, Sumit Sapra, Arsh Grover and Jaideep Sajwan all scoring at Event 47.

Aditya Agarwal continued his trailblazing run in the series and now has ten cashes at the festival. This week he scored two notable cashes starting with his 31st place finish in Event 56 for $14,183 and banked another $2,477 from his 179th place finish in Event 52.

Kunal Patni picked up his first two cashes at the series this week totaling over $10K while, Jaskirat Bindra, Nikita Luther, Shashank Jain and Muskan Sethi also cashed in several events.

Dhaval Mudgal was busy at a Rio Daily $235 event and made it to the final table too. He eventually finished eighth for $3,200.

A number of our challengers were busy playing another highlight side event i.e. WPT500 Aria with Day 2 of the event currently underway.

APT Southeast Asia 2017

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) in partnership with the Poker King Club (PKC) is currently hosting the APT Southeast Asia 2017 at the luxurious Star Vegas Resort & Club in Poipet, Cambodia. The series commenced on July 1 and is slated to run till July 7.

Tetsuya Tsuchikawa took down the NLH Welcome Event for $1,800, China`s Hailong Huang won the Head Hunter Event pocketing $1,820 and Japanese player Jun Saito won the Ante Up for Charity Event for $850.

Connecticut Soon To Get Third Casino

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has signed a legislation allowing the two Native American tribes i.e. The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes to jointly build and operate the third casino on non-tribal land in the city of East Windsor. The construction could begin next year.

Playtech Founder Teddy Sagi Divests 10.1% Shares

Technology Company Playtech which owns the iPoker Network was founded in 1998 by Teddy Sagi, who recently decided to divest approximately 10.1% of his holdings in the company for around £316 million. The move will reduce his holding in the company from 17.8% to 7.7%.
