In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

It was a week of scintillating action for our Indian players, who were engaged in battle on both sides of the world i.e. the west at the ongoing 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) fighting side-by-side among the world’s best and a number of our pros also flew east as the action stoked at the APT Macau 2017 with two titles already taken down by Indians.

Zarvan Tumboli shipped the Opening Event HK$300K Guaranteed while Vishakhapatnam based pro Manoj Pentakota clinched the Head Hunter title at APT Macau. A number of Indians managed to make notable scores in the series with Shravan Chhabria still in contention for the Main Event title.

With the big pros busy bracelet hunting at WSOP and APT, many familiar names were seen firing big scores online and topping the charts was Bengaluru based Vinay ‘vinstill’ BK who takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title!

In a shocking new development back home, Telangana government has approved an ordinance that bans online gaming in the state and this is expected to hamper online poker and rummy companies significantly.

Online poker enthusiasts have something to cheer-up as PokerBaazi announced the new Endeavour ₹5 Lakhs Guaranteed event that will be hosted every Tuesday. Adda52 too announced a bigger 20 lakhs guaranteed Adda52 Million event on June 25.

In International news, APT Philippines July edition will now be hosted at Winford Hotel and Casino and Absolute Poker co-founder pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on September 28.

The week was dominated mostly by live action but online grinders were at it too with Vinay ‘vinstill’ BK shipping the PokerStars ‘Big $22, $35K GTD’ for $6,487.23. For this he takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” Title!

Anil ‘BigBlufferAY’ Yadav won $3,498.26 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $215, $30K GTD’ and made won $1,238.98 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $162, $12K GTD’

gunner9696’ won $2,430.33 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $25K GTD’

Anmol ‘anmols’ A Srivats won $1,435.96 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLO8 [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $3K GTD’

Sachit ‘satkar’ Kapur won $1,317.54 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$44 NLHE [Turbo, Progressive KO], $10K GTD’

New Endeavour 5 Lakhs Guaranteed Tournament Every Tuesday Announced on PokerBaazi

PokerBaazi recently announced its brand-new Endeavour ₹5 Lakhs Guaranteed event that will be hosted every Tuesday at 10pm with a buy-in of ₹5,500. PokerBaazi also made several additions with their Baazi Summer Carnival offering ₹2 crore worth of prizes.

Telangana Government Bans Online Gaming

In a shocking new development, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has passed four new ordinances and one of them amends existing online gaming acts and bans the same making both online gamblers and promoters of these games in the state liable for prosecution under the new law.

WSOP 2017

It was an eventful week at the 2017 World Series of Poker, with several new bracelet winners crowned with humongous player-crowds participating in each event.

Making an impact were our own challengers or Team India as we patriotically label them, who dived right into the fray and made a number of notable finishes with all giving it their best shot.

Pablo Mariz managed to clinch Canada’s first bracelet after taking down Event #20: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em MILLIONAIRE MAKER for $1,221,407 and Shane Buchwald won his first bracelet after winning Event #24: $1,500 Limit Hold’em event.

Sumit Sapra also ran deep in MILLIONAIRE MAKER finishing 118th for $8,054. Vikram Kumar managed to cash in the $235 Daily DeepStack and finished 48th.

A number of other winners emerged who took their share of the gold including John Monnette, Joseph Di Rosa Rojas, Tyler Groth, James Obst, Chris Moorman and Brian Brubaker.

India’s first bracelet winner Aditya Sushant made another deep run in the $3,000 NLHE 6-handed event finishing 28th for $14,364. Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal also cashed in the event finishing in 61st place for $6,191.

The roar of Indian names was certainly heard again as Indian-origin player from USA Gaurav ‘Gary’ Raina won his first gold bracelet in Event #29: $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em. Vladimir Shchemelev also took down an event to win his second bracelet.

APT Macau 2017s

Indians dominated the eastern hemisphere too this past week with Zarvan Tumboli and Manoj Pentakota both claiming titles at the ongoing APT Macau 2017. Tumboli took down the Opening Event HK$300K Guaranteed for HK$74,300 (~INR 6.14 Lakhs).

Pentakota was another Indian to claim his first international title as he shipped the Head Hunter event for HK$47,000 (~INR 3.88 Lakhs). Arjun Dhingra too made a deep run in the event and collected HK$21,200 (~INR 1.75 Lakhs) for a third-place finish.

In side events, Alok Birewar and Pavan Ashokkumar Gundesha cashed HK$27,400 (~INR 2.26 Lakhs) and HK$19,000 (~INR 1.57 Lakhs) respectively and in another side event Nishant Sharma made it to the final table and finished ninth HK$20,800 (~INR 1.71 Lakhs).

Jaydeep Dawer, Zarvan Tumboli and Nishant Sharma made it in the money in the Main Event. Dawer collected HK$53,100 (~INR 4.38 Lakhs) for his 10th place finish, Tumboli cashed HK$50,000 (~ÌNR 4.13 Lakhs) for his 12th place finish while Sharma min cashed HK$37,700 (~INR 3.11 Lakhs) for his 18th place finished.

The Main Event will be in the books soon and Shravan Chhabria is the lone Indian still in contention for the title. He resumed play today with the second shortest stack with 367,000 in chips.

Indian cashes this week at APT Macau 2017 –

APT Philippines July Edition Shifts to Winford Hotel & Casino and Non-Gaming Areas of Resort World Manila Resume Operations After Attack

The APT Philippines 2017, which was scheduled to be hosted at Resort World Manila (RWM), has now been shifted to the newly opened Winford Hotel and Casino as RWM lost its gaming license after the attack by the lone Gunman earlier this month.

The only notable change is the Main Event buy-in, which will drop to $2,200 as opposed to the original $3,300.

Absolute Poker Co-Founder Scott Tom Pleads Guilty

Scott Tom and his lawyer recently signed a plea deal to one misdemeanor count against Absolute Poker and will probably be hit with some hefty fines with the sentencing set for September 28. The deadline for players to file for claim has also been extended to September 7th.
