In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

It’s time for our weekly recap and this time we have a full house of reports from tournaments, new announcements and several important developments. Hectic live action saw several eminent poker tournaments taking place across the globe. Among these were the APL Road Series Philippines, partypoker LIVE UK Poker Championships, WSOPC Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Main Event, Heartland Poker Tour Main Event, OlyBet Kings of Tallinn Main Event and the 2018 Unibet Open London.

The six-day APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines kept railbirds back home busy as India’s Rajesh Goyal put a stellar performance in the Main Event finishing 17th for P75,600 (~₹94,526). Jayjit Ray finished 27th for P52,200 (~₹65,268) and Agampal Dhupar finished 36th for P45,000 (~₹56,265).

Another prime event currently underway at the Commerce Hotel and Casino is the WPT L.A. POKER CLASSIC Main Event. Of the 493 players who entered, only 13 remain with Dennis Blieden leading the pack.

Action is set to escalate further as the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau will be kicking off next month from March 14 – 25. As always, India’s pioneering pro Aditya Agarwal will be in attendance at the series leading a very talented Indian team. Other live festivities kicking off this week include the 888poker LIVE Bucharest (February 28 – March 4) and the WSOP International Circuit – Rozvadov (March 1 – 18).

Online action was not lagging either with regulars and new faces burning the virtual felts and claiming the PokerGuru Star of the Week” title was a newcomer Naresh “nareshratnam” Rathnam who took down the ‘Adda52 Millions’ for ₹6.63 lakhs.

Domestic online sites went all out this week announcing many enticing promotions for players. Adda52 has tied up with PokerGuru for an exclusive promotion that will award PokerGuru members with free tickets to premier Sunday events on Adda52 every week for using special PokerGuru deposit codes. MadOverPoker too made news with the announcement of a brand-new Cash Run promotion.

We have lots more, with news from Goa where offshore casinos may be shifted to the entertainment zone near the planned Mopa Airport according to Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Sudin Dhavalikar.

Then there is the report of the announcement of the second season of the much-anticipated Match IPL which will be hosted in Kolkata on March 31.

On the international scene, there were several announcements as well including PokerStars releasing deadline for claiming PKR refunds, partypoker releasing MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona Schedule and GPI American Poker Awards declaring the final list of 20 winners at a gala event in LA.

The week has gone by and once again left us with several notable scores to report in our online railbird report section. As usual, several players made the week worthy of remembrance with their power packed performances. The one who topped the cashes list was Naresh “nareshratnam” Rathnam who walked away with ₹6.63 lakhs after shipping the Adda52 Millions and for this claims our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Rahul ‘pokerjoker’ Mittal won₹5 lakhs for 1st place in the PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday (₹15 Lakhs GTD, ₹5 Lakhs for 1st)’

Armaan ‘armaan07’ Kochhar won $4,925.74 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Fast Friday [6-Max, Turbo, [Zoom], $50K GTD’ and won $3,339.36 for 34th place in the PokerStars ‘Turbo Series 37: $1,050 NLHE [8-Max], $300K GTD’. Kochhar also won $1,740.23 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$16.50 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $7.5K GTD’

Deepak ‘bothras’ Bothra won ₹2.70 lakhs for 1st place in the Adda52 ‘Sunday Suits’

Raghav ‘Rossoneri23’ Bansal won $3,681.20 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$109 Sunday Starter, $30K GTD’

Anmol ‘anmols’ A Srivats won $2,976.73 for 2nd place in the PokerStars Big ‘$162, $12K GTD’

Aditya ‘Gangajal’ Sushant won ₹1.19 lakhs for 1st place in the PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday (₹5 Lakhs GTD)

Gangadhar ‘Sgr4business’ won $1,270.10 for 1st place in the PokerStars $5.50 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $6K GTD’

Anant ‘Fi5h4rapper’ Purohit won $1,105.26 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘$109 Saturday KO [Early Edition], $30K GTD’

‘nikithaluther’ won ₹69,920 for 1st place in the PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD PLO’

PokerStars Turbo Series

The PokerStars rebranded Turbo Series (formerly TCOOP) is well underway with over 38 events crowning a champion so far. The series features 74 events and will conclude on March 4.

Match IPL Season 2 to be Held in Kolkata on March 31

Match Indian Poker League (MIPL) backed by Raj and Shilpa Shetty and IFMP is coming back for Season 2 and this time the league will be hosted in Kolkata on March 31.Match IPL has also added three more city-based teams namely UP Indians, Pune Kings and Haryana Hawks while Team Goa King’s has been rebranded to Goa Lions, with a new set of owners. The winning team will win ₹40 Lakhs and will represent Team India at the Match Poker Asia Nations Cup to be held in Bangkok in April.

APL Road Series Philippines

The six-day APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines kicked off this week at the Royce Hotel & Casino in Angeles City. The P5,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event is now down to its final nine players trimmed down from a starting field of 276 runners.

India’s Rajesh Goyal put a stellar performance and started Day 3 as the chip leader among 36 survivors but he hit the rails today at 17th place. Goyal couldn’t get much going after losing two big pots over the day and banked P75,600 (~₹94,526) from his deep finish. Jayjit Ray and Agampal Dhupar were the other two Indians to cash. Ray finished 27th for P52,200 (~₹65,268) and Dhupar finished 36th for P45,000 (~₹56,265).

Goa Offshore Casinos May Shift to Entertainment Zone

Goa was back in news this week as the Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Sudin Dhavalikar (standing in for Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar) assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that the government would draft a policy to shift offshore casinos to the planned entertainment zone near the upcoming airport project in Mopa.

PokerStars Announces Deadline For Claiming PKR Refunds

Online giant PokerStars recently issued a deadline of February 28 for filing remaining claims by PKR players. PKR customers can move their funds to a PokerStars account and cash out from there. The site recently also sent emails to PKR players urging them to claim their refunds.

partypoker Releases MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona Schedule

This past week, partypoker released the schedule of the first-ever MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona which is set to unfold from April 7 – 15 featuring €23,000,000 GTD over nine events. partypoker is advertising the series as the largest festival in Europe’s history. The series’ pinnacle event will be the €10,300 MILLIONS Grand Final Main Event (€10 million GTD) which commences on April 11.

GPI American Poker Awards Winners Declared

On February 22nd, the fourth annual Global Poker Index American Poker Awards presented by PokerStars were hosted at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. Among the twenty awards given, Las Vegas based pro and vlogger Andrew Neeme won two awards and Poker Central also won two awards in the categories of Media Content and Podcast. Scott Blumstein (Tournament Performance of the Year), Lance Bradley (Poker Journalist of the Year) and Ari Engel (PocketFives Legacy Award) were other inductees at the event.

partypoker LIVE UK Poker Championships

Last week, partypoker landed in Nottingham, England, at the Dusk Till Dawn Cardroom and Casino for the partypoker UK Poker Championships and the featured event of the series i.e. the £1,100 Main Event saw a huge field of 1,076 entries that created a £1,043,720 prize pool.

The last man standing in the event was Cheltenham-based Chris Brice who banked his biggest tournament result of £187,500 along with his first title after defeating Daniel Clark heads-up!

The higher buy-in £5,300 Super High Roller winner emerged in Steven Morris who pocketed £70,000 for his finish. The event saw a tough field of 40 entries. The total prize pool of the event exactly matched the advertised guarantee of £200,000 and six players made it in the money.

Kammar Andries Wins WSOPC Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Main Event

The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Seminole Casino Coconut Creek $1,675 Main Event wrapped up this past week and attracted a field of 827 entries that generated a $1,200,000 prize pool from which 90 players cashed. After three days of intense action, 40-year-old physical therapist Kammar Andries claimed his first WSOPC gold ring, $241,898 top prize and a seat into the 2018 Global Casino Championship.

Mike Englert Wins Heartland Poker Tour Main Event

The Heartland Poker Tour held at the Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado concluded after its $1,650 Main Event found a champion. The event attracted 607 entries and Mike Englert shipped the title and pocketed the $200,762 first-place prize. Englert had finished third in the same event last year.

Juha Helppi Wins 2018 OlyBet Kings of Tallinn Main Event

The 2018 OlyBet Kings of Tallinn €1,100 Main Event attracted a solid field of 268 runners and Finland’s poker pro Juha Helppi came out on top, netting the €62,000 top prize. Helppi defeated Arto Ilmari Loikkanen heads-up and took home €41,000 for his efforts.

2018 Unibet Open London

The 2018 Unibet Open London concluded this past week after the £990 Main Event champion was found in 22-year-old student Andreas Wiborg who dominated the 349-entry field to lift the trophy. Wiborg defeated Jonathan Schuman following a heads-up deal and took home an impressive £56,807 as first-place prize money.

Meanwhile, the £2,200 High Roller attracted a field of 78 and Julien Sitbon took down the event after a heads-up deal with Ivan Deyra and pocketed £41,850 for his finish.
