Following the footsteps of Khelplay, PokerNation has decided to close its site after parting ways with it`s international software provider Microgaming Network.

A notice posted by the online poker site read, “PokerNation has made the decision to part ways with its partner Microgaming, it’s current software provider. We would be taking a break and discontinue our Poker operations as part of a re-structuring process from 15th of September, 2018.”

With an assurance to “resume service within 90-120 days”, the site plans to introduce users to their own customized software and upgraded features and capabilities.

While the re-launch date of the site is still uncertain, the operations on the current site will cease on September 15. The site has requested players to withdraw their funds as the deposit option will be disabled by September 5. However, players will be able to withdraw their money till September 30.

Similar to PokerNation, Mumbai-based Sachar Gaming Pvt. Ltd. had also announced the closure of its poker site Khelplay.com earlier this year. The company had stated that it would be shutting down operations by March 15 as a part of a “business restructuring process”.

The site however continued operating their rummy brand, KhelPlay Rummy.

Another site that also shut down this year was Thrill Poker. Thrill Poker had started its operations in 2014 in partnership with Swedish software provider Cubeia. It was one of the first sites to join hands with Microgaming, but came back to Cubeia a year later before winding up operations.

While neither Khelplay nor PokerNation have been explicit about the reason for the closure of their operations, it has been speculated that Microgaming’s India Poker Network (IPN), has failed miserably in creating a substantial player pool, getting liquidity or traction in India.

With only PokerLion and PokerYaar currently operational on the network, Microgaming`s foray in India clearly seems to not have gone as planned.
