The eight-day long 2018 Poker Masters has now concluded. The seven-event extravaganza crowned several winners including Brandon Adams, Keith Lehr and Isaac Haxton. But two pros who stood out among the rest were Ali Imsirovic and David Peters (cover image). Both players won two events each and whilst Imsirovic went on to win the 2018 Poker Masters Purple Jacket with 660 points, Peter narrowly missed the player of series designation with 650 points, but he took down $100,000 Main Event for an impressive $1,150,000.

Ranked fifth on the Global Poker Index and 13th on the All Time Money List, Peters is a former World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet winner with total live earnings of $24,612,763.

Talking about his experience at the series, Peters said “It was definitely a long week. A lot of battles with a lot of great players.”

Day 1 Recap

15 players joined the fray on Day 1 but only eight made the cut for Day 2. While David Peters (620,500) topped the leaderboard, seven runners were eliminated through the course of the day including Isaac Haxton, Keith Tilston, Matthias Eibinger, Brian Rast, Jason Koon, Dan Smith and Brandon Adams.

The eliminations of many notables caused Tournament Director Paul Campbell to pause the tournament mid-way through level five to have a lengthy discussion with the remaining nine players. To safeguard the integrity of the tournament and the players who were still in the running, the decision was made to end Day 1 at the completion of the level and have registration end at the commencement of play on Day 2.

Day 2 Recap

10 more players registered for the event on Day 2 taking the player pool to 25 entries and making for a total prize pool of $2,500,000. Christoph Vogelsang, Dominik Nitsche, Seth Davies, Nick Petrangelo, Ali Imsirovic, Rainer Kempe, Justin Bonomo, Koray Aldemir, Stephen Chidwick, Cary Katz and Bryn Kenney joined the action, while Adams, Koon, Smith, Haxton, Eibinger and Tilston re-entered.

The flop brought card 3card 3card 3 and Smith picked up two pairs of aces and queens, while Adams flopped a pair of aces. The turn card 3 missed both players, but Smith rivered a fullhouse with card 2 ending Adams’ run in seventh place.

On the 36th hand, Smith raised to 30,000 from the button with card 1card 3 and Stephen Chidwick moved all-in with his last 17,000 from the small blind holding card 2card 2. David Peters called from the big blind with card 2card 3. The flop fell card 3card 3card 2. Peters checked to Smith who continued for 25,000 in the side pot. Peters called to see the turn card 2. Smith and Peters checked through to see the river card 1. Peters led out for 40,000 with two pair and Smith let his hand go, while Chidwick was railed in sixth place.

Five hands later, Christoph Vogelsang shoved all in for 128,000 from the button, while Smith and Peters called from the blinds. The flop came card 1card 2card 3. Smith and Peters checked to see the turn card 3. Two more checks and the card 2 completed the board. Smith fired out 250,000 into a dry side pot which got a quick fold from Peters.
