In a surprise twist, a Conference Manager from Malaysia, Ying Chua (cover image) upset the hopes of 2013 Red Dragon winner Tom Alner and final table chip leader Liang Xu to clinch the title of the Macau Poker Cup (MPC) 24 Main Event for HK $1,904,000, after a three-way deal that did not include the latter two.

Simultaneously, the HK $80,000 High Roller completed Day 1 yesterday and Indian-origin player Vikram Nanda was chip lead with 544,000. Shashank Jain, Indian origin players Shashank Rathi and Ramkrishna Rajkumar have all made Day 2, which will play out today.

Several of our players participated in Events 15 – HK $20,000 NLH and Event 16 – HK $3000 NLH but were unable to make any headway. Day 3 of Event 15, will wind up today with a winner. Today will also mark the start of Day 2 for Event 16 and Day 1 of Event 18 – HK $5,000 KO Bounty.

HK $12,000 Red Dragon Main Event – Final Table

Ying Chua won Malaysia its first Red Dragon trophy, outlasting the record 1075-player field and collected HK $1,904,000 as his share of the prize money, after a three-way deal. He also got a $100,000 ACOP Main Event ticket as a bonus. The elated Chua later stated, “I feel super fantastic! I really didn’t expect something coming to me so soon (after a recent win at another event in the Philippines).”

The final table began with Liang Xu leading the stacks and the spotlight on former Red Dragon champion Tom Alner, who was hoping to recreate history. However, being the second shortest stack Alner had an uphill task ahead of him, and was eliminated in eighth place by Yang Zhang for $223,500 just minutes after Xu busted Yongqiang Huang in ninth place.

Zhang himself was next at seventh and Fan Xie busted at sixth. After this point, Chua rose to begin a spate of eliminations, taking out Chengbei Lei at fifth place and Liang Xu at fourth.

A deal was discussed and after much negotiations finally struck between the remaining three players with each getting the following –

Ying Lin Chua – HK $1,504,000

Takashi Ogura – HK $1,382,000

Wayne Zhang – HK $1,307,000

An additional HK $400,000 and the trophy were kept aside for the ultimate winner. 30 minutes later Takashi Ogura was railed by Chua at third place and barely 15 minutes later the final hand arrived.

Zhang went all-in preflop and Chua called.
