The inaugural Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) kicked off last night at the luxurious Deltin Royale Poker Lounge in Goa, making it the first tournament at the venue, after the Indian Poker Championship (IPC) exited the poker room management earlier this year, shortly after their last tournament in February 2016.

The opening event was a resounding success with 230 runners turning up for the first ₹10K Freezeout event, amidst the incessant Goa rains, clearly evidencing that players were starved for such tournaments, with the IPC on an indefinite break.

Kalyan Chakravarty (cover image) outlasted the 230-player field to take down the opening event for a payday of ₹5.70 Lakhs.

An initiative of PokerBaazi, the tour had been announced in late May, after the site had joined hands with experienced poker entrepreneur and pro Jasven Saigal, to launch their live poker brand, the Baazi Poker Tour.

The tour will run from June 23 to 26, with four varied events including an ₹25K Main Event (₹20 Lakhs GTD) that will play out on Saturday, June 25.

₹10K Freezeout

Starting off yesterday, the tournament completed its first event – the ₹10K Freezeout, which was won by Kalyan Chakravarty for ₹5.7 Lakhs, who outlasted a field of 230 entries.

The crowd was mostly made up of pros and regulars, as well as hitherto unknown players, and most of the big names were in attendance barring the few busy at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.

“Shuffle up and Deal” was announced by PokerBaazi Pro Vikram Kumar at 7 pm and among those to take to their seats were PokerBaazi Pro`s Paawan Bansal, Abhisek Panda & Vikram Kumar, Pranay Kapoor, Maria Kirloskar, Anil Gulati, Anup Palod, Kartik Ved, Sahil Chutani among others

Late registrations brought in Spartan Poker Team Pro Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan, Rahul Melwani and Yuvraj Singh.

Eliminations began early on and Deepak Bothra, Rajat Sharma and Nisha Sarin all exited before the first break.

By 11 pm, action was intense and Samoh could be seen doubling up from an opponent, while Zarvan Tumboli was doing the same on another table.

After a slew of eliminations, the event was down to 65 runners by midnight, with players eager to make the money line that started at the top 24 finishers, collecting a piece of the ₹22.8 Lakhs prize pool.

Samoh`s deep run in the tournament came to an end with the poker pro min-cashing ₹20,000 at 24th place.

A final table was formed by almost 4am, after eventual winner, Kalyan Chakrborty busted Niwesh Sharma at 10th place, with his pocket queens against the latter’s three-seven. Sharma left with a consolation ₹44,000 in prize money.

Kalyan went on to eliminate Jaydeep Dawer at ninth place, while Vikas Singh picked up pace eliminating both Alnoor and Siddarth Singhvi at seventh and sixth place respectively.

After the exit of Jeeran Jain at third place, heads up was set between Kalyan Chakravarty and Vikas Jain , lasting barely 12 minutes and four hands.

The final hand came in the wee hours at 7.48am and saw Kalyan all-in with . Vikas, with called. The board rolled out crowning Kalyan as the champion. Vikas made a runner-up finish for ₹3,50,000.
