A longstanding tradition and the most prestigious one in poker, the Poker Hall of Fame (PHOF) has just announced its newest inductees – John Hennigan and Mori Eskandani. Hennigan and Eskandani have joined an elite club of 54 members who have been honoured for their extensive contribution to the world of poker.

A three-stage process, starting with public nomination followed by a PHOF Governing Council screening process, leading to the finalization of the ten final candidates that culminates with a voting procedure in which official ballots are sent to the 28 living Hall of Fame (HoF) members and 18 members of a media voting panel, ends in the declaration of the names of the inductees.

This year the ten finalists had included some illustrious names like Chris Bjorin, David Chiu, Mori Eskandani, Bruno Fitoussi, Mike Matusow, Chris Moneymaker, Matt Savage, Huckleberry Seed, John Hennigan and David Oppenheim. Following the final vote Hennigan and Eskandani made it into the PHOF Class of 2018 on July 12.

Described by top professional poker players like Daniel Negreanu as the toughest opponent they have ever faced, John ‘Johnny World’ Hennigan enters the Hall of Fame in his very first year as a finalist. With five World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets to his name, Hennigan has displayed proficiency in the different variants of the mind sport.

He won his maiden bracelet in Event #10: $2,000 Limit Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo in 2002 for $117,320 and followed it up with another win in Event #29: $5,000 Limit Hold’em in 2004 for $325,360. It took 4 more years for his third WSOP bracelet win which came in Ante Up For Africa for $136,860 in 2008. 2014 saw him take down Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship bagging $1,517,767. His last bracelet win was during the ongoing 2018 WSOP in Event #27: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. for $414,692.

With total live earnings of $8,100,924 under his belt, Hennigan is still going strong having appeared in ten events at the present tournament series. One of the most renowned names in modern poker, Hennigan is also in the running for the title of ‘2018 WSOP Player of the Year’ after he final tabled in six events this year at the series.

Mori Eskandani

An avid poker player, Mori Eskandani’s true talent lies behind-the-scenes. Although he is a high-stakes cash game specialist, it is in the in the field of modern poker content production that Eskandani has successfully made a name for himself.

From creating, developing and producing content such as Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker, The National Heads-up Championship, owning the production house Poker PROductions, and producing the ongoing WSOP telecasts on ESPN and PokerGO, Eskandani is the man who has spearheaded the growth of televised poker.

Though not the inventor of the hole-card camera, he was one of the first to implement it in poker games that were broadcast on television. Chris Moneymaker‘s WSOP Main Event win in 2003 was an effective instance when his idea to use hole-card cameras made the event much more interesting to the television audience.

Besides his massive contribution to the media aspect of poker, Eskandani is an expert player as well who has cashed in 17 WSOP events with cumulative winnings of $239,047.

As these two poker greats join 54 others in the Poker Hall of Fame (PHOF), they will be inducted in a ceremony which will be held during the WSOP Main Event final table festivities on July 13.
