Today marked yet another historic day at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) with Day 1C of the main event attracting a record field of 3,418 players, the most the event has ever seen on any one day. By the time registration closed on Day 1C, the total number of entrants to the main event of this year’s WSOP stood at a record 6,598. Each of these players paid $10,000 to get a seat in the main event of the world’s biggest poker tournament series that kicked off at Hotel Rio, Las Vegas on July 7.

Participating in the main event is PokerGuru pro Aditya ‘Intervention’ Agarwal (cover image) who entered the tournament on Day 1C. He ended the day with 35,050 chips after touching up to 100k before the dinner break. The gruel of the last two levels of the day brought Agarwal’s chips down considerably. At 12pm PST today, the remaining players from Day 1A and Day 1B will re-convene for Day 2A and Day 2B respectively in separate rooms which will begin at Level 5, with the blind and antes at 200/400 and 50. Aditya will be joining the Day 2 flight on Wednesday alongside the remaining players of Day 1C. They will be playing poker for the next eight days to have a shot at the most prestigious prize in poker, the WSOP main event bracelet and a first prize of a whopping $8,527,987. The top 666 players will get a piece from the total prize pool of $62,021,200, but all eyes are set on the top prize.

At the end of Day 1C, Randy Haddox emerged as the chip leader with 188,275. Other notable players who survived Day 1C in decent shape are Doyle Brunson (81,400), who almost didn’t play this year’s main event; former main event champs Joe Cada (117,375), Jamie Gold (24,800), Johnny Chan (82,300), Tom McEvoy (24,125); 2006 WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Madsen (33,525); the current 2012 WSOP POY front runner Phil Ivey (11,525); and Big One for One Drop winner Antonio Esfandiari (78,925).
