It was a gala event, pulling hundreds of poker enthusiasts and players from the domestic and international poker world into its fold. We are referring to the second edition of the much anticipated and unique Poker Sports League (PSL) with a prize pool of 4.5 Crores that was held onboard Casino Deltin Royale in Goa from May 9 - 13.

Eleven teams pitched a tough and raging battle against each other and after an action-packed contest, Team Goan Nuts emerged victorious and bagged the 2 Crores top prize cheque for their splendid performance. Team Gujarat Falcons came as close to lifting the cup but eventually finished runner up and won 1.2 Crores, followed by Rajasthan Tilters which finished third, winning 90 Lakhs in prize money.

Amid much cheer and applause, PSL ambassador and Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand presented the trophy and medals to the winning teams. Highlights of PSL season-2 will be aired on Dsport channel from June 11-17.

"I would like to congratulate the winning team and all the other teams for being such a sport. Today we witnessed some amazing match where we saw the tables turning with Goan Nuts taking away the glory at the last minute by beating the rest of the teams”, Anand commented on the finale.

Poker Sports League Season 2

In its second year of operation since it was launched in 2017 by Amit Burman of Dabur Industries, Adda52 co-founder Anuj Gupta and veteran of poker industry Pranav Bagai, PSL organizes an annual series of poker tournaments between city-based franchised teams.

Live and online qualifications for PSL season 2 began in December 2017 and continued till March. Close to 110 players were drafted for the 11 participating teams namely Andhra Bullets, Goan Nuts, Kolkata Kings, Gujarat Falcons, Punjab Bluffers, Rajasthan Tilters, Chennai Thalaivas, Bengaluru Warriors, Delhi Panthers, Pune Sharks and Mumbai Anchors.

All PSL tournaments were free, with a mentor selected for each team. 2 professional players were chosen first, followed by 2 live qualifiers, 3 online qualifiers through tournaments hosted on and 2 wild card entries.

It was certainly a start studded affair as some of the biggest names of the industry from the international and Asian poker circuit were a part of the one-of-a-kind league. These included the 2014 WSOP Main Event champion from Sweden Martin Jacobson, PokerStars Championship Prague 2017 High Roller winner Danny Tang, 2-time WSOP bracelet winner Kevin MacPhee, Hong Kong’s Sparrow Cheung, Taiwan’s Terry Fan, Alan King Lun Lau, 888poker ambassador Sofia Lövgren, Dylan Linde, USA’s Jordan Westmorland, Japan’s Akira Ohyama, Australia’s Bobby Zhang, and Greece’s Ioannis A Konstas.

Every day, right up to the finale, one team was declared ‘Team of the Day’ and awarded ₹10 Lakhs.
