Goa is back in the news as the Chief Minister of the coastal state Manohar Parrikar informed the assembly on July 27 that, “The government has decided to remove casinos from the Mandovi, but till today, no alternate feasible site has been finalised and the matter is under examination”

Last year in December it was announced that the policy to shift all offshore casinos would come in four years and the Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Sudin Dhavalikar had even assured that the government was drafting a policy for casinos to shift to the planned entertainment zone near the upcoming Mopa airport.

Now, responding to a resolution tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourencoto to check people entering gaming areas without permits, Parrikar stated that a gaming commissioner can be appointed after rules are notified in December.

Lourencoto also pointed at the way casinos are advertised in the state and how the various hoardings with Casino ads are portraying a wrong image of Goa to the world. “Even outside the airport you can see casino hoardings”, he added.

Parrikar didn’t disagree and stated “I was promised they (boards) will be removed” saying that it would be done. Lourenco withdrew his resolution on Parrikar`s assurance.
