David Peters Wins Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju HK$500K NLH 6- Max For HK$8.77 Million

The HK$500,000 6-Max Event at the 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju opened with 39 runners on July 28. Fielding across the likes of former World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winners Bryn Kenney, Dominik Nitsche, Sam Greenwood, Phil Ivey and Nick Schulman, the series regular and a bracelet winner himself, David Peters (cover image) claimed the title and the top prize of HK$ 8,775,000 (US$1,118,066).

Off the back of several successful runs at the 2018 WSOP, Peters currently ranks 5^th on the Global Poker Index. With a career spanning over 12 years, his total live earnings presently stands at a staggering $22,797,612.

Talking about his recent win, Peters said, “It was up and down quite a bit. Towards the bubble, I was getting a little short. The chip lead was getting back and forth when we were three-handed.”

When asked about his opponents’ playing styles, he stated, “You always have to adjust based on different playing styles. There’s a lot of different types of players in the tournaments like this. Some of them you’re very used to, some of them you have to get more used to. Some are playing a lot more loser, playing a lot more pots. You have to know how to adjust versus those.”

Day 2 began with the 14 survivors from Day 1. However, following many eliminations, which included the winner of the HK$1,000,000 Short Deck Ante-Only Ivan Leow, Cary Katz, JC Alvarado, Patrik Antonius, Mikita Badziakouski and Ying Jinghui, the seven-player final table was set up.

Final Table Recap

The first to leave the seven-handed final table was Bryn Kenney. When Chow Hing Yaung opened from the cutoff, Kenney 3-bet from the small blind. Yaung called to see the flop . Kenney checked and Yaung bet 75,000. Kenney moved all-in with and Yaung snap-called holding . While Kenney hit a top pair of aces and had the outs for a flush draw, Yaung had his opponent dominated with his flopped two pairs of aces and jacks. The turn and river were of no help to Kenney and he was busted in seventh place.

Immediately after Kenney’s departure, Sergio Aido open-jammed from the button with and David Peters called from big blind holding pocket sevens. The runout missed both players and Aido bounced out in sixth place.

Luc Greenwood became the tournament bubble boy when he was eliminated in fifth place. Stephen Chidwick raised from the cutoff and Greenwood called from big blind to see the flop open . Chidwick bet 15,000 prompting Greenwood to move all-in for 136,000. Chidwick called and tabled against Greenwood`s . Both players were gunning for a hearts flush draw but Chidwick was leading with an ace-high kicker. The turn missed both players, but on the river both rivered a flush, however, Chidwick’s ace-high flush busted Greenwood’s king-high flush.

Soon thereafter, Steve O’Dwyer raised from under-the-gun and Chow Hing Yaung 3-bet from the small blind. O’Dwyer 4-bet all-in putting Yaung on a tough decision. After tanking for some time, Yuang finally decided to call. O’Dwyer tabled against Yaung’s @9h. The community cards brought and O’Dwyer paired his ace on the board, eliminating Yaung in fourth place.

The three-handed play between O’Dwyer, Stephen Chidwick and David Peters lasted only a couple of hands. Finally, O’Dwyer raised from the button with pocket fours, Chidwick moved all-in from big blind holding and O’Dwyer called. The board ran and O’Dwyer`s hand held up, eliminating Chidwick in third place.

The heads-up play between Steve O’Dwyer and David Peters saw the chip lead changing hands several times before it was all over. On the final hand, O’Dwyer limped in with while Peters raised with . The flop brought . Peters fired a delayed check-bet and O’Dwyer matched to see the turn . On the river , Peters hit a queen-high straight and went about setting up a trap for O’Dwyer with a check. The latter tanked for while, before moving all-in. Paters made the easy call to claim the title along with the top prize of HK$8,775,000 (US$1,118,066).
