The 17th Chapter of the Indian Poker Series that concluded on Sept 24, 2012 at Casino Royale attracted a fair bit of attendance despite Ganpati festival. In the 5K freeze out, the first event of the chapter played on Sept 20, it was Gundeep Chahal who beat a field of 38 players to win the pole position that brought him ₹65,000 first prize. In the final hand of the tournament that lasted a little over 6 hours, Chahal’s completed a straight on the turn to beat YJ Kim’s flush draw with on a board.
Runners up of the first event YJ Kim was in top form again when he came back the next day to win the 10K Double Chance freeze out. This time he held in the final hand that beat Michael D’Souza’s on a board of . Kim bagged the first prize of ₹1,00,000 for this effort. The Double Chance freeze out format made its debut in India for the first time in IPS and involves a player getting a second chance when he busts out.
The main event of 20K freeze out was held on Saturday, Sept 22, with 32 players in the fray. After seven hours of high-adrenaline poker, Ashish Goel (cover image) was the last man standing to win the ₹2,19,000 first prize. His beat Roie Ben Zion on a final board of .
The final event of the chapter, the 5K Freezeout, drew 20 players and saw the current leader on the IPS Player of the Year leaderboard Vineet Bailur make it to the final table. Bailur was however knocked out in 4th position. Navin T bagged the event’s top spot for a ₹38,000 payout.
